This is my 4PP, Panda Sunrise. I am happy with the 3 borders so far, but I had planned to add a wider final border of the original fabric.
Now I am thinking it looks very busy and detracts from the center panel. Perhaps another black border like the first one would be better and I am binding in black. Here are photos showing the 3 borders it has now, and the original fabric added as a border. Opinions please.... current 3 borders with original fabric border added |

i'd take off the green and add the orig fab and then black.. jmho

I think a final black border would set it off very well. Nice work!

I would leave off the green and you have it made.

I would take the green and pink off ....I would do a thin strip of orange then another black then the original fabric and bind it with black.....just my thoughts....whatever you do will be very pretty

To me I don't read to much of the green when I look at it so for me I would leave it off.....the quilt has a lot of pink already and by taking it off and adding more black border it would frame it....I just feel the pink and green borders are competing with the center for the eyes attention

Ummmm....I think there are too many borders the same width. I would cut down the pink and green to narrow inner borders, then do a wider one of the print. That should solve it.
|
My first thought was that I would try using a solid orange for the outer border.
I also agree with tealfalcon too. Or... The pink border reads as a solid pink which sort of competes with the OBW block fabric. I'd go with a true solid color to tame the busy center blocks or make them 1/2" borders, then use a wide outer border with un-pieced OBW fabric. |

I think I would add a black border with a peice of the original fabric pieced into the black in a couple places. It is pretty.

I would actually take off the green and the pink borders and use the floral as a wider border. Maybe bind it in black? For some reason the two solid borders (green and pink...I know the pink isn't but it looks like one :) seem to "blah it down" ( such a technical term LOL) and it is such a vibrant quilt! Needs some punch to the borders! Black is always a good choice to accent it with. Nice quilt!

I think you need to have black on the outer edge.

Love it!

WOW so much to think about. Thank you all for your thoughts and for sharing your reasonings. I am going to wait for more ideas before I decide what to do. :?:

i like your thoughts on the black as you are binding in that color...the darkest color always gives a 'frame' effect that sets off the central piecework... and i think that after you 'audition' the fabrics you are considering, you should always trust yourself... you will never regret doing what you wanted to...only if you didn't do it and then it wasn't quite what you had planned...

My 2 cents worth: The borders are pretty the way you have them. The colors you chose are perfect. Your instinct about not adding the print border is right. When I look at the quilt as you have it, the borders frame and compliment the print in the center panel. However, with the same print border added, my eye is drawn to it instead of being drawn to the center panel. Final thought: Do whatever is attractive to YOU, because you'll have to look at the quilt for a long time while you're completing it.
