A great block. Like looking through a kaleidoscope. Some many patterns. Tea dye it if you don't love the finished project.

OraLee 07-12-2010 10:36 AM

I Love it. And don't think it is to modern. Did you say it was a day and night? The ones I have seen don't look like that square.

Oftentimes, styles are mixed. I think the important thing here is that you have the colors she likes. I's say continue with this design.

What a great friend you are! I am part of a nonprofit that gives gift bags to chemo patients on their first day of chemo in the hospital and we always include a blanket or fleece or afghan of some kind (like to do hand made when we have them, but usually store bought). Some (I think most) of the chemo drugs make people get cold. I know I have ALWAYS "run hot" and when I was in chemo last year, even during the summer months, I always was under a blanket in the lab.

I think it's great, and I think it will work really well with 'primitives'. In a way, it reminds of some of the great two colour antique quilts you see in books from time to time. And I love the suggestion of making it reversible. Hope we get to see the finished product.

I agree with justwannaquilt. I think if you used a cream or light tan, it would be more in keeping with primitives. The blocks look great. Wish I could get points to line up as perfectly as yours. Either way you go, bet she will love it and you for making it.

I really like the block. It's very striking with the 2 colors and the angles. When I think of primitive though I think of muddy colors more like the civil war fabrics, etc. But I also think anyone would love to receive your quilt as a gift. It's from you and you're putting your heart into it and that's what really counts most and she will see and feel that and be happy.

Tweety2911 07-12-2010 02:34 PM

I like it also. Very nice.

auntiehenno 07-12-2010 03:08 PM

If she has all antiques, is her room dark? This would be perfect? I like it.

Jeri M 07-12-2010 04:02 PM

I think it is awesome!

rexie 07-12-2010 06:38 PM

I have a best friend that is also undergoing chemo. I made her a 48 X 60 quilt/throw. It has pink panters on it. I took it to church and the elders laid hands and the preacher said a prayer over it. Now she takes it with her every time she goes for a treatment. I think your friend will love anything you make for her cause it will be from your heart.

ladyredhawk 07-12-2010 07:32 PM

your friend will love it it is very pretty

butterflywing 07-12-2010 08:29 PM

a lot of very old traditional quilts have a very modern feeling. hunter's star, for example. white and any one color sort of modernizes it. even rob peter looks contemporary. i think its beautiful and wouldn't hesitate to gift it.

Alondra 07-12-2010 08:34 PM

Many times primitive antiques, in their simplicity, are very modern. It's very pretty, and an interesting pattern. I think she'll like it!

jwo1966 07-12-2010 08:37 PM

I really need to post my pics. Did this in black/gold/and white, musical fabric. Just have to quilt it. Have it pinned. I will have to take pic of it.
This is such and easy quilt, but you are right, may be to modern. I love the idea of reversible topper:) Either way your friend can't go wrong:)

Kas 07-12-2010 08:54 PM

Red and white quilts are very traditional. I think it is very beautiful.

Annz 07-12-2010 10:26 PM

This is very striking, but is it too wide?

lindyline 07-13-2010 03:13 AM

I think it's just great the way it is, and as others have said, you are making and giving it from the heart. Regarless of if your neighbour uses it as a toppper, or a means of warmth, which I think more likely, I'm sure she will love and treasure it always. Finish it as you planned, and give your neighbour thhis most beautiful gift to cherish whilst she is in this most vulnerable state. All my thoughts and prayers go out to her.

That is what inspired only two colors. My Gramdmother had one that was only red and white. I will post the finished project when I get that far!!

mollymct 07-13-2010 03:30 AM

I love it!

Actually her room is stark white, no drapes with red and white accents around the room. But it does have lots of color.

I had not thought of that - you are right. Thanks!

aborning 07-13-2010 02:11 PM

I also think I would use an ivory or creme fabric instead of white. And then I would use a deeper (towards the burgundy color) red. I think this color combination would mix better with her primitive looks (which I think of more as not so bright). But this is a good color combination also.

theresse 07-13-2010 05:13 PM

WOW fantastic

wildyard 07-13-2010 05:38 PM

Or perhaps you could tea dye it after it's finished if you still find the colors a little too stark.

KarenBarnes 07-17-2010 04:20 PM

I love it!!!! Beautiful how the blocks work together!
