OK, so I have to ask the dumb question. Did you print the whole kitty picture, as you see it, onto white fabric squares? Or did you do flat applique' pieces? I'm just trying to figure out how you got the kitty's clothes colored, etc. I've looked at children's coloring books and thought they could be great ideas, but didn't know quite how to go about it. Thanks for any hints you can share.

Congratulations on your new grandbaby. I love your quilt. I think I might add a purple border out of the same fabric you used around your blocks that was just a tiny bit wider. I used to love to use coloring books for applique patterns. I used to get really thick ones that were not theme related. The Hello Kitty ones were much loved by my GDs when they were little.

I printed the picture out on regular paper. Then I traced it onto steam to seam and cut out each piece separately. Then cut each piece out of the material I wanted, then placed pieces where I wanted on each panel, ironed on the pieces, Then blanket stitch around all. I found it fairly easy. The hardest part for me was finding the pictures.

Thank You-Thank You!!! Thank you for the perfect explanation. That's what I would have done, but I sometimes feel that it isn't the "right" way to do applique' work. Sometimes I zig-zag the edges, but more often I also do the blanket-stitch, either in matching thread, or contrasting color, or the invisible. You can get very creative with little pieces and details. Your Kitties looked perfect-you did an excellent job on the pictures! I'm so glad to find somebody who "creates" the same way I do. Thanks for the tip on searching for colouring pages online, because I have yet to find a HK colouring book where I live.
I was trying to come up with a way to make a HK quilt and this solved my problem! Thanks again for the hint!
