My mom's a teacher & really likes optical illusions, uses them a lot with her students too. I'm going to make this quilt for her. It's not a surprise though, I showed her this same picture and she really liked it. Today we went and got all the fabrics for it. Now I just have to wait for the magazine/pattern to come in the mail. She said she'll hang it up in her classroom. I'm hoping to be able to have it finished by her birthday in the beginning of September, maybe even before that before school starts if possible. What do y'all think?

Wow, that pattern looks SO difficult. Is it PP? I'm going to have to take a look at that magazine's back issues. That really catches the eye.

Debbie1 07-03-2009 06:27 AM

That's a great pattern!

the pattern is from Quilts with Style it was a paper piece magazine thats no longer in business except on ebay and some designs can be purchase from equiltpatterns.

its from the sept/oct 2006 issue its called Pythagors' Lute.

i would rate the PP pattern as advanced. its numerous units joined together to make each kite section.

the pieces near the center around the dresden dish are only about 1/4 inch in size.

the issue with working with such smaller pieces is there's no room for error. you can't ease this stuff in because your quilt won't lay flat.

Shemjo 07-03-2009 09:34 AM

Thanks Klue for the information. I have some of their old issues, but I doubt I have that one. :(

This is where I found the back-issue of the magazine... http://www.quiltswithstyle.com/main/...oras_Lute.html. The finished size is 34¼" × 36".

I can't wait to get started on it! Just have to wait until the pattern/magazine comes in the mail.

I really love that, it is so neat. I'm going to have to add that to my list of quilts I want to do some day. It certainly looks like a challenge.

feline fanatic 07-03-2009 04:36 PM

Wow, it's gorgeous. How about a picture of the fabrics you picked out?

littlehud 07-03-2009 06:18 PM

Thank you for the information. I just tried to buy this back issue, cost $6, and they wanted over $32 to ship it to Ireland. No thank you.

Can't believe I didn't think to show y'all the fabrics I chose...

Sorry, I'm not the greatest at taking pictures so some of the colors didn't come out exactly right.

the orange is a lot brighter than the picture shows

the 2 blues (far left) in this picture look a lot different than shown here. the first one is more of a bright/vibrant aqua/teal and the second one is a sky/baby blue color.

kluedesigns 07-04-2009 06:56 PM
