Orange peel quilting

Orange peel or continuous curve is one of my favourite FMQ designs. It has many variations but the biggest benefit is it can be done with only one start and stop. Today I used it as what I call Twinkle Stars or Star Peel on this block center.

Looks good! When I try to do something non-stop I usually screw it up.

Continuous curves (CC), IMHO, is an invaluable technique for any machine quilter. It is so simple yet so versatile. It can be doubled or even tripled for a more intricate look.

Another variation is commonly known as the Terry Twist which, while similar in execution, gives a completely different look.

Diana Phillips also expanded on the idea with her "Line Dancing" designs. Executed like continuous curves but with lots of interesting variations to switch things up a bit.

Definitely good ideas. I will be quilting a double Irish chain soon and want to find a good quilting design.

Beautiful quilting.

Very cool variation on that pattern! I think those angles would get me twisted up, lol. I'd need lots of paper practice so I didn't do the angles "inside out". Good job!

One of my favorites as well!

I like that continous star design. I use CC so often (only thing more is the wishbone)and any variation is welcome. I agree with Feline that it's a great design--allows you to move around the quilt without stop/starts. Thanks for the diagram too.

Great visual. I'm great at the curves, but would really have to concentrate to get the star points. Thanks for sharing!
