Not an orange person, but love this...it is not "screaming" oranges. You did a great job. I hope you post with the binding, anxious to see it. I have a question. I remember watching that tutorial and thinking that since the orange peels were secured down, could you just sandwich the quilt and then sew the peels and it would be quilted in one step? Do you think that would work?

I'm not usually a fan of orange, however, your quilt is gorgeous. Thanks to Jenny's tutorial on MSQC this quilt is now on my Roundtoit List.

Very pretty. I don't use many orange fabrics either except for Fall but I would now after seeing your quilt. Great job!

I really like this and it gives me a great idea on what to do with all the orange fabric I have left over from African Queen. Thanks for sharing.

You did a great job appliqueing those slices. Can't wait to see the finished product.

OMGosh I absolutely love it!

I would not recommend doing it that way. Be prepared that you need to make lots and lots. I made 120 individual blocks, which are then joined into a block of four. My quilt top measures 41 x 52 and I am keeping it that size so I can quilt myself. My friend wants to make a blue queen sized one with no borders. I don't want to discourage her, but, she is going to need maybe 500 squares. This is a quilt you put your patient hat on.

I would not say it was hard, the word I would use is tedious as you cut interfacing, cut slices, put together, sew edges. Then you trim the edges, slit a hole in backside, turn right side out. Then you press each one, trying to get points in right direction. Then you applique each one, then you are ready to sew blocks together, phew, lots of religion, not hard though

I love it!!!! I watched the MSQC tutorial.... I would have a great desire to want to press the slices after you turn them inside out!!!! lol.....Yours turned out wonderfully!!!

Very pretty and good luck with whatever you decide to do with the binding and backing..

This is from a tutorial on MSQC called orange slices. I only used stash fabric (knew I would use orange one day) I only had to purchase fusible interfacing. I plan on quilting it myself. I am at the point of contemplating possible backings and have already denied two possible fabrics. Since there is so much color and movement, I'm leaning towards unbleached muslin and a turquoise binding for some pop. I will post the completed project when done

Really great looking quilt. Did you use the same template she used?

solstice3 03-08-2015 05:45 PM

very nice! That is very similar to the "Melon Patch" block that El Burns does

quiltmouse 03-08-2015 06:27 PM

It's Yummy!

Luci177 03-08-2015 06:37 PM

Yes, I used the template from MSQC, using a small rotary cutter made it easier.

I really like it! Orange is such a fresh color . I didn't use to like it, but over the past year have come to love it. My patient hat is very, very thin, almost see-through. Kudoes for your perseverence. Can't wait to see the finished product!
