Jan, it is not bad at all. It is your quilt and you can make it anyway that pleases you. I changed the center square in the light Ohio Stars from my main green to my secondary red color because that was more pleasing to my eyes, and like you, I am not entirely fond of the white and black border, although I do love the finished quilts I saw here and on the net. But since I was behind, I never really made these border units, once I get to the point where my top is assembled, I will consider my border choices and see what I want to go with. But know that no way is a wrong way, it is all just personal preferences.

Whew, it's done! It's "busy", "loud" (the comments from my family of guys). And I don't like it at all. The colors don't stand out enough. The pale greens are too pale. The problem with a mystery is you take a wild guess what will look ok, and sometimes it fails. It must have thousands of pieces, used up several spools of thread, and best of all, used up lots of scraps. I'll get it quilted, but won't be my price and joy!

I actually like it, SaraSewing. I think that the pale greens help tone it down quite a bit. Mine is almost finished - red, black and yellow - and it is LOUD and BUSY. The reason it is not finished is because I am contemplating a solid black border to try to tone it down some. I love the overall pattern but my colors are very bright.

and what a hugh accomplishment to have completed this quilt with it thousands of pieces and many parts. you have done a wonderful job with it and the top is completed. have it quilted and put it away for a while. i know it was so much work that it may take you a moment to appreciate all the work you put into it. hopefully the process was fun for you. i think it is great.

Sara, I soo disagree with you, it is fabulous! I love how the red stands out and I think your black and neutrals give your green a nice definition. You should be proud :)

Sara, You did a fabulous job. Don't judge whether you like it or not until it is quilted. Sometimes it makes you fall in love with a quilt that you weren't fond of to begin with.

Sara I really disagree, I love it. Maybe your just to close to it right now. I have had quilts that I didn't care for but I put them away for a couple of months and "rediscovered" a different quilt the next time I looked at it.

Oh my gosh, what is there not to like? I think it is a wonderful piece of art and once quilted you'll fall in love with a wonderful quilt. Congratulations on a job well done.

Your Orca Bay Mystery quilt is beautiful Sara! Those soft muted greens with occassional bursts of reds remind me of a gorgeous jar of beach glass. Sometimes we are our own worst critics. I don't see anything loud or busy about your quilt and it makes me yearn to start mine!
