Our March 1st. quilt class was a class on Eleanor Burns "Orion's Star" block. I made a couple little fabric color changes where I used the dark burgundy in the light fabric area but here it is. It was so fun and easy and I love the quilt. Just have to finish the sashing, sandwich it and quilt it....but the TOP is done!

Beautiful quilt. The colors are beautiful. What will you use for the sashing and binding.

I think I'll use a stip of the light, a stip of both the print green and the burgundy and will pick up the other light color right next to the star for the binding ...that's what I'm thinking right now but I change things around as I lay them out.

As it hangs in the picture, it is 48 inches by 64 inches. Each block is 16 inches square.

I've toyed with the idea of adding another row or two to make it big enough for a full-sized bed but I made it out of scrap/left over fabric and I just didn't have enough of make it any larger. Some of the fabric is still available at Joann's but my center star fabric was gifted to me in a bag of scraps so I don't know where I'd ever find a like piece. What you see is pretty much what it'll be with the added sashing and binding to add a bit more size to the whole thing. It'll work as a couch snuggle quilt or on a twin bed . Haven't had a twin bed in this house in 40 years so guess couch snuggler is what it will be.

Thank you all for the nice compliments.

I'm finishing the same quilt from a class as well. Unfortunately, I lost my mind, and decided to make a queen(96x96). What a nightmare to baste, and because the basting on my floor was so difficult, the quilt is bunching up in certain areas as I quilt. Not to mention the bulk in my 9"harp. It's frustrating, but I'm just going to finish and get it out of the sewing room.
Yours looks great. How do you plan to quilt it? I have just stiched in the ditch around all the stars and about half the blocks-I have the other half to go. Then the borders. I should have just meandered and been done-it would have been much easier.

I've had my eye on this book for awhile now, trying to decide if I want to do it or not. Yours is beautiful! Maybe I'll add it to "the list." You know all about the list--it goes on and on and on and.....

Hi Midwifehc: I'm so sorry you are having trouble with your big quilt. I'm sure it will be beautiful when you are finished with it. As for the quilting, I don't have a clue how to do it...yet. I had thought about going in the ditch around the star and the logs but don't know yet. I may take it to the long armer and let her tell me what I should do...that's easier.
