this is a quick and easy pattern(even tho it took me about 2 mos.) that Patrice gave me , it will keep me warm in my easy chair this winter. I'm thinking of backing it with flannel but does it all pill? I hate that!

it looks better in person

I remember seeing this in a couple of other colourways, choice design Patrice and it looks stunning in the black and white Kathy

patricej 09-23-2007 12:38 PM

i'm so proud :-)

whatcha gonna do for the border? just curious. it's weeeeeely, weeeeeeeeely, pwiiiiiidy :P

kathy 09-23-2007 01:01 PM

I'm thinking solid black and same for the back

Joan 09-23-2007 03:22 PM

I backed a baby quilt with flannel and yes it did pill. Someone on the board recommended prewashing the flannel at least two times to deal with all the shrinkage. Even with the pilling, though, it's very soft and I thought it would be particularly good for a baby quilt. I just used flannel from Wal-Mart. I could be cuirous if a higher quality flannel (moda or the like) would pill as much......

mimisharon 09-23-2007 03:34 PM

Kathy,
That's dazzling! I love it! Is that the same pattern I did with all the scraps for my mom? The B & W make it look so different......WOW!!

You do such a beautiful job of it all. I like the solid black idea. Flannel, hmm what about fleece if you want warmth?? Pillage here, pillage there, all will pillage everywhere. :(

Very nice quilt. I like the black and white. I have been wanting to do a quilt in black and white but it just wouldn't go with the colors in my house or any of my family's houses. But after seeing yours I might just make one anyway. Thanks for sharing.

Kathy~
That is awesome! I love high contrasters like this!
It looks great. Now you've got me thinking how well red would look mixed in with that!

How about a red border! ?!?! ?!

zyxquilts 09-23-2007 08:00 PM

Nice job Kathy! I'm with Sharon - how about fleece instead of flannel? It would surely be warm! I love the black & white too. :D

i've never seen a flannel that didn't pill eventually. here's hoping we'll get some specific recommendations if anybody has found one.

babeegirl 11-26-2008 04:53 PM

wow, I gotta do this one Patrice!

sewnsewer2 11-26-2008 05:07 PM

Yours looks great too! I like the black and white fabrics in this.

ania755 11-26-2008 05:30 PM

Harmony 11-26-2008 05:49 PM

It's stunning! Looks like a piece of artwork!

sharon b 11-26-2008 08:07 PM

I love the way it came out. I have started collecting black and white fabrics to make a quilt. Is it possible to get a copy of the pattern?
Sharon

i've seen Kathy's black & white rendition of the pattern in person. it's even prettier up close. and quite snuggly for lazy days on the couch. :-)

the pattern is one of my originals, named Surprise Party. it feels wrong somehow to piggy-back an "advertisement" on this gorgeous post but ... i do offer it for sale.

Bevanger 11-27-2008 05:56 AM

i love it. i love b/w quilts

sewjoyce 11-27-2008 07:10 AM

Diane007 09-24-2012 03:00 PM

black and white always very nice

debcavan 09-24-2012 03:02 PM

It has great placement of the lights and darks. So I am sure it looks wonderful in person

cathycabot 09-24-2012 03:19 PM

flannel will not pill if you pre wash it using a cap full of hair conditioner

A high quality flannel froma quilt shop will be soft after lots of washings. I made a flannel throw for my DH to use while he watching the race with his eyes shut. It is used a lot and is still soft.

nannyrick 09-24-2012 03:47 PM

Love it. What a wonderful job. Thanks for sharing.

travelingquilter 09-24-2012 05:30 PM

you could try minkie or velour instead of the flannel. they are nice and soft and stay looking nice.

QM 09-24-2012 05:40 PM

Good looking. I have corderoy for my lap quilt's backing and I love that feel. I have also used brushed denim for the feel of flannel without the pilling.

alfosa421 09-24-2012 05:40 PM

Very nice What about backing it with fleece or minky?
