We had a great week. This year was at my house!

We did:
Bargello Table runner (from Beautiful Bargellos)
Halloween Wall Hanging ( Thimbleberries Book)
Woven Tumbling Blocks ( Sister #3 had the pattern, but she took it with her. I NEVER want to see it again!)
One Block Wonder ( from the book of the same name).

Bargello... loved the result, process was mind boggling.
Halloween ... Cutesy
Woven Tumbling Blocks. An exercise in frustration. Try turning 42, 3" tubes 45" long... and have the seam exactly on the side!!!
One Block Wonder... LOVE the blocks not sure about all those Y seams!!!!

There is a U-tube video for strip pieced tumbling blocks that looks pretty easy and a much less scary than Y seams.

The all look awesome. Glad you had a good time.

I think they all look great. I love your "Sisters Weekend." I WANT SOME SISTERS! Daughters don't count; they think quilting is dumb.

Quilt4u 10-23-2009 07:37 AM

Wow!!!!! You sure was busy. And they all truned out beautiful.

This tumbling blocks pattern is a bunch of fabric tubes WOVEN into the tumbling blocks pattern. You assemble it on a piece of styrofoam. Turning the tubes inside out was tedious and I gave up and didn't make mine reversable like the patterns suggested.

Great results from your week. I love the OBWs, but the book puts them togethers with straight, not Y seams, which are so much easier, I would do them with straight seams. The fabric you've used has some lovely colour ways in. You all got so much done, very rewarding. I would love to have a go at a bargello.

Holy cow! That's even harder than regular tumbling blocks which I'm too intimidated to try.

I just finished making some fall centerpieces of large 6 piece octagons. They are so simple if you sew 3 triangles together and then the other 3 and then match the center seam --a nice centerpiece. Trying to figure out how to send the image with the note..someone want to walk me thru it. Is it from a picture file, scanner or camera or what? Sorry I'm new to this ...

Hunnib 10-23-2009 09:59 AM

Wow, you guys sure accomplished a lot! Lots of beautiful projects.

sewnsewer2 10-23-2009 10:00 AM

Excellent job! Isn't it fun to sew together?

Mamagus 10-23-2009 04:51 PM

Sure was and I am so grateful for Katrine who mentioned that the blocks could be assembled with straight line sewing. I looked at the book again and she was right! That will really cut down on the aggravation factor of Y seams... AFTER I rip them all apart!

That looks like you all had so much fun. And you got some beautiful quilts out of it too. Great job on all of them.

cindygale 10-23-2009 10:32 PM

Hey what fun you had! I love those bargellos and the OBWs especially (glad Katrine sorted you out with the Y seams - hope you don't have to do too much ripping!) Can I be your sister and come next time?

Donna 66 12-12-2012 06:24 AM

Great idea--I was my sis was a quilter, but she does scrapbooking (and just took that up a few years ago). You really got a lot accomplished. I was interested in the tumbling blocks idea until I heard turning tubes. Thanks for sharing your pictures. Donna
