Coloring books are one of my favorite.

I agree! I used heart and dog cookie cutters for patterns on a quilt I recenlty finished.

Know what you mean. At a 911 conference and thought the pattern on a carpet at the hotel would make a great quilt block!!

I am in the process of hand quilting a baby quilt for my daughter (baby #2 arriving in August) and I am using cardboard stencils I saved from when my children were little. The stencils are sturdy and are making such cute little objects (cats, dogs, hearts, bears, flowers, rabbits and ducks) I used a bigger heart stencil putting it together in a group of 4 to make it look like a flower which I used for the bigger blocks. Every single block has some kind of stencil in it that I am hand quilting around. Yes, there are so many things one can use. It's almost like being a little kid again, making up stuff with what ever you have on hand. Oh and I drew out each stencil on press and seal wrap then stuck it to my blocks (pinning around the outside of the stencil itself), sewing on the lines of my drawing, then carefully tearing away the plastic wrap. It is working wonderfully, even on dark fabric.

As a scrap booker, when I see cookie cutters I also see patterns for cutting out photos and journaling mats. Isn't it nice to have so many uses for such a mundane object as a cookie cutter?

So true!!! lol

I look at carpets in restaurants or hotels, etc and see lovely could-be quilts. Happens in a lot of places though.

So do I !!!! And tile patterns on floors too!

Yup! I agree. My DH was suprised to see me come out of a tool store with 2 books of skill saw patterns, then realized before I said anything that they were going to be used as quilt templates.

I also see quilt possibilities everywhere. Coloring books are also a great source.
