Here it is - AND my first attempt at machine FMQ. I couldn't do it on my old machine, dogs wouldn't drop, so i just bought a machine second hand from a friend and now I can do it! Woo hoo! I think it's the only way to quilt these Ks - no point handquilting them, you just don't see it!

I used Warm and Natural cotton batting which is nice and thin and wasn't too bulky through the throat, which is just regular size. My stitch length is a bit variable but all in all I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. Brilliant to get a top quilted in a few hours instead of weeks! I'll still hand quilt when a more decorative effect is called for but it's great to have the option to machine quilt as well - especially since I plan on making quite a few more of these One Block Wonders!

:D K x

Close up - and yes, I picked the best part to show you! LOL

The back - I went a bit loopy here!

Those are Hans' feet BTW!

I especially love the theme of this quilt, my moms name is Pansy. Is the kalydescope pattern hard to do?

SulaBug 06-03-2009 08:56 AM

I didn't find it hard - I followed the instructions in the book One Block Wonders by Maxine Rosenthal. I'm totally hooked on this technique. I'm already piecing a second one and have a few more planned!

Amma - thanks for the complement on the FMQ - but like I said, I showed you the best bit! :D This is a good pattern to practice on though - so busy you don't see mistakes!

I'm thinking, Terri, swiped a 'magical' suitcase, from the totomonas*...it's bottomless...ladies, hang on to your quilts, when Terri visits...her suitcase is like Mary Poppins, nanny bag...she can get A LOT of quilts, in there! :D

k3n 06-04-2009 05:06 AM

As long as she gets the kids to tidy their rooms like Mary Poppins as well, I might even let her swipe a few!LOL

k3n 06-05-2009 12:25 AM

Thanks for the kind words - especially about the quilting! In fact, the best part was the bit I did on one of the borders when I was rushing to finish because Hans was nearly home! There's a tip in there somewhere!

Justquilting 06-05-2009 03:35 AM

Very pretty!! Good job on the quilting!
