The pansy quilt is fianlly done! I thought I'd never get it done  All I have to attach the label, but I am not really counting that towards being done  I am just soooo happy for it to be altogether that the label can go on any time between now and next Friday when I leave for New Orleans. Feel like doing cartwells, but the earth might tremble fi I did that. Olive Oyle I ain't

That is simply gorgeous. The pansies look so real. You did a great job picking out fabric and colours.

FANTASTIC !!!

vicki reno 08-25-2007 05:02 PM

You have gotten a sneak peak. Th elabel is not yet attached but I am not worried about it. I downloaded a basket shope from clip art and found a brown from Moda for the basket. I have one done, but the writing isn't real good, so I will try another one tomorrow. I will use a small piece of blue to make it looklike a small basket of flowers and then write on the blue. I was trying to not use wonder undr, but have to anyway to reinforce the fabric. I don't have any freezer paper and hate to buy some just for that.
See you Friday
Love ya
Vicki

Vicki!
What a wonderful accomplishment, you are one talented lady. The applique is beautiful although I know it was alot of work! Pat yourself on the back! :D

vicki reno 08-27-2007 03:38 AM

Thanks everyone for the kind words. It wasn't a hard quilt because I used ironed on fusible, but it was tedious. Its for a special aunt and she is certainly worth it. I just made myself crazy trying to get it done in such a short amount of time :!:

Marsha 08-27-2007 07:58 AM

Feathers 09-05-2007 06:20 PM

Wow! It's just beautiful. I understand when you say you're glad to have it done and could do cartwheels! Olive Oyle, I aint, either  so I'll just applaud your accomplishment and leave the gymnastics to the young, tiny, williowing quilters. :D

Hi Vicki, Your pansy quilt is beautiful. What did your Aunt say when you gave it to her? Whenever I see pansys , I think of my Dad ; he liked pansys too.
Elaine

vicki reno 09-06-2007 11:45 AM

I know she loved it because when she saw it, she started crying. And of course after that I chimed right in with her.

i love your pansy quilt the colours are so pretty i just love it

vicki reno 10-31-2007 03:02 AM

Thanks for all the kind words. The sad thing is that she has the beginnings of dementia and is quite forgetful/not loved any less, but forgetful. So I am not sure how long she will remember that quilt. I did sew a label on the back so if she needs her memory jogged a tiny bit, she can always look at the label. But she is a very special aunt, for sure. I just wished I had done this years ago.

susan s. 10-31-2007 07:18 AM

Job well done Vickie. Did it get alot faster with each block tho? You are an expert Pansy- appliquer by now aren't you?

vicki reno 10-31-2007 07:28 AM

I don't know about that, but I must be the sole supporter of the find fuse company now! LOL I bought enough of it to do pansies with!

susan s. 10-31-2007 07:36 AM

LOL, How much did it take?

vicki reno 10-31-2007 08:37 AM

The fine fuse came in 1/2 yard pkgs and I think it took 2 and part of a third.

sdeaaz 11-04-2007 09:33 AM

I finally got the pattern from Foothill. Thank you for your help. I have now tried to make my first pansy. How did you separate the petals. When I made my pansies the petals all seemed to melt together and didn't show any demention. Any suggestions? Did you embroider on the petals at all? Thanks, Quilter 1234

vicki reno 11-05-2007 05:37 AM

I top stitched all the petals using machine embroidery thread and that helped. Also if you use Batiks with multiple colors so that each petal ooks slightly different that will help too. Good luck!

sdeaaz 11-05-2007 05:50 AM

Thanks. Did you match the thread or did you use black? I have been experimenting. I used a black marker to outline and see what that would look like. I may try a fabric paint, or embroidery sounds great. Thanks Quilter 1234

vicki reno 11-05-2007 07:06 AM

Some were done with matching thread--like the blue ones--that had double thread in the needle--some were done with variegated thread--like the orangey ones. That thread was a little heavier so I just used one thread in the needle. Are you going to put them in baskets? I am dying to see what you come up with!

sdeaaz 11-05-2007 06:06 PM

haven't quite decided. I May not get a lot done until after my Christmas projects, Thank you so much for your ideas. I will post whatever I get done. I just bought a watercolor picture of pansy's in a basket at a local craft fai. I can never have too many pansies. Quilter 1234
