I'm not sure what order these pictures will come out in. The one in browns is a picture of a paper piecing project I bought at the Road to California show--sorry about the poor quality of the photo. Once I looked at it closely, I decided I needed some practice before I attempted it, so I made the red & white thing to brush up on my technique. I have a friend who's got lots of red and white in her house, so I'll give it to her to stick on a wall or something. I love red and white together!

The red and white "Thing" as you called it, is very cute!!!! How big is it? I havent tried PP yet.I sat looking at some PP patterns today trying to talk myself into it, didnt work!!!!
Your pattern looks like it will be gorgeous! Is it courthouse steps and baskets? Oh I think I see some log cabins in there too!

I LOVE to paper piece. Your red and white practice piece is wonderful.

I looked your Small Things pattern up on the internet and found out it measures 24X32!!!!! That means each of those blocks is a 6" square!! Oh, this is going to be gorgeous!! Are you starting it right away? Be sure to post lots of pictures as you go!!!

Your practice piece is super looking. Your right, the other pic is fuzzy but looks interesting!

Good job! I'm still afraid to try PP.

Looks like a nice job.....how did you like it? was it hard?

Harmony 01-25-2009 11:42 PM

Tonight I got my nerve up and started one of the Courthouse Steps blocks for this wallhanging. It has 29 pieces and measures 6" square! Took me well over an hour, and I need to make 20 of them. And then there are other blocks as well. So I don't think you'll be seeing my finished project anytime soon!

I was fairly pleased with the block I made. The middle was kind of wonky, but I figure that will just make it look "rustic"! Those of you who haven't tried paper piecing need to jump in and give it a shot--it's really fun to see the block develop as you add pieces, and the points and corners are pretty nearly perfect!

You did a great job on your practice piece!
I will agree....anyone who hasn't tried it, HAS to try it. It's really NOT that hard! Heck, if I can do it, ANYONE can!

pocoellie 01-26-2009 05:26 AM

I found a decent picture online of the wallhanging I'm (theoretically) going to make--or at least attempt to make. I'll post some pictures of my progress a little later.

Very nice !! :D

Okay, here are my first two efforts at a Courthouse Steps block. For some reason I can't seem to get the middle right. Each of the "logs" is a quarter inch wide, and each of the blocks seems to be taking a couple of hours. As I said, this one will be a WIP for quite a while!

mgshaw 01-26-2009 08:46 PM

I love the fabrics and the color, this is going to be really great!!!!

sandpat 01-27-2009 05:39 AM

Harmony, that looks like so much fun! Well, I love the pattern and the fabrics you are working with look so great together. I can't figure out why the center would be coming out like that for you. You'll get it though...I love it!!!

jacquemoe 01-27-2009 07:37 AM

Nice practice work, Kathy. The brown quilt looks gorgeous. Dang, I wanted to go to the Road to California quilt show but just couldn't. One day, maybe. VERY NICE WORK.

Harmony 01-27-2009 04:19 PM

Jackie, I wish I'd known you wanted to go! Your could fly out in the morning and I could pick you up at the Ontario airport. Then we could go to the quilt show, have dinner, and I'd have you back to the airport for your flight back! You could easily do this in a day if you don't want to take any classes or anything. Next year, let's do it!
