Paper piecing - ugh...

First attempt at paper piecing. It looked like a process that was going to be very tedious, hence the small quilt for our dog. If I ever do another paper pieced quilt I'll certainly choose blocks with fewer pieces. The best effect comes from blocks that are the same placed together to make a larger block. I do like the precise extreme points and the effect you can get with the tiny pieces, but it was so time-consuming. Oh well, he seems to like it! I also tried a batting I wasn't sure I would like, Quilters Dream Puff. Doesn't drape very well because of the thickness, but that might get better with time and washings, and it also might drape better on a larger quilt. Nice batting though, and I have no doubt it would be very warm.

I can't seem to master paper piecing but I love the look of it. Your quilt is beautiful. I wish my name was JAX & that was my quilt! Don't give up on it....it looks like you are a pro at it already.

Your quilt is beautiful!!! And that dog....what a cutie! Looks a bit like our sweet dog that we had to put to sleep right before Christmas. Can I ask what kind of puppy she/he is?

Karamarie 03-19-2018 04:13 AM

You did pick a difficult pattern for a first pp quilt but looks like you aced the process. Beautiful.

rosiewell 03-19-2018 06:29 AM

It's beautiful, Jax is a lucky dog

Doggramma 03-19-2018 12:30 PM

I think you did a great job on it. Yes, PP is fiddly and time consuming. It's not my favorite thing. Jax is a lucky dog to have such a beautiful quilt!

RuthiesRetreat3 03-19-2018 12:56 PM

Absolutely stunning!! Wish I had the pattern. I love to paper piece.

My sentiments exactly!!

I don't mind paper piecing but you sure did do some amazingly small pieces, good job though,

ccthomas 03-19-2018 05:24 PM

Nice paper pieced quilt.

retiredteacher09 03-19-2018 06:14 PM

Great job and such a pretty quilt.

I have tried paper piecing a few times. I just can't get the hang of it. I hope to take a class at my LQS to learn how to paper piece without the stress of getting the pieces to fit.

Grandma Peg 03-19-2018 07:05 PM

Jax really has a beautiful quilt for his bed. Wow, that is a hard pp project for your first one and you nailed it!!

Jules51 03-20-2018 10:31 AM

What a pretty quilt! You did a great job!
And Jax is so cute! He looks so much like my Mom's minature schnauzer. But I also see poodle. Jax's ears are longer. So sweet.
:)

My dog gets test quilts too but she has never been that lucky. It's a beautiful little quilt.

bunbytes 03-21-2018 11:26 AM

Cute dog and quilt! I love paper piecing, but I tend to shy away from the patterns with little tiny pieces.
