Patriotic Quilt Top

I completed this top this morning. The volunteers coordinator at the senior center requested some as a 'special project'. I told her I could commit to one a month as I still want to donate to the cancer center.
I just love this pattern... so easy and I can make them quickly... you know... like on an assembly line. And I got to use my new Quilters Select square up ruler [ https://quiltersselect.com/products/...uilting-Rulers ] purchased in Arkansas on my recent vacation to visit my elderly parents. I just love this ruler... it has thin marked lines and a backing that simply will not slip when cutting. They are designed by Alex Anderson and distributed only in LQSs to support local shops.

Looks like a winner. Just squares and 1/2 sq tr. What size are your squares? And what size is the over all quilt? Or is this a pattern you can not share? It sure is beautiful and interesting.

A nice looking quilt! What is the pattern name?

PaperPrincess 07-16-2018 05:21 AM

That is nice! Lots of movement, but a straight forward layout, and any size squares will work!

I cut 18 red squares at 5.5" and 18 scrappy squares at 5.5". I HST either side of the diagonal line and square up to 5". I cut 72 scrappy squares and sew them into the 9 patches and lay out in the pattern, then sew together. it ends up 40.5x54. borders can be added as desired. i make it this size so the backing does not have to be pieced.

this is the block

Very attractive design...

Very nice quilt and love how the red just peeks out and makes a statement and adds a little pop to your quilt.

Love the colors. Great movement is the design.

Nancy, the charity I sew for makes this exact size -- we too do not want to have to piece the backing. Love this pattern, will have to "borrow" this one.

Cute top!

JJean 07-16-2018 09:36 AM

Simple but effective--I may borrow this idea! Great quilt and pattern!

Sweet looking top. Nice design.

Great pattern! I make a lot of QOVs. Thanks for the idea that is simple but gorgeous! Jane Q

Great design, it has lots of secondary patterns for nice eye movement.

Linny 07-16-2018 02:00 PM

I like your pattern, very nice.

Jingle 07-16-2018 02:40 PM

Beautiful and colors too.

Very nice!

Darcyshannon 07-16-2018 03:20 PM

Great design and thinking, not needing to piece backs. Striking. I will try it to use up scraps.

Teddybear Lady 07-16-2018 08:53 PM

Great pattern! How did you like our hot weather here in Arkansas on your visit?

Great pattern Nan and wonderful placement of fabrics. I love Quilters Select rulers and I think I have 4 or 5 now. I have been slowly replacing my Omni grid rulers...

Thank you for sharing the block construction, it looks like a nice go to pattern.

WMUTeach 07-17-2018 03:48 AM

Nice quilt. I like the fact that it is red/white/blue but is more...subtle. I would make this as a QOV in a minute but it also could be a simple warm snuggle blanket.

Great quilt! And thanks for sharing the pattern

ckcowl 07-17-2018 04:18 PM

That is a great patriotic quilt. Nice of you to commit to a quilt a month.

ccthomas 07-17-2018 05:38 PM

Nice patriotic quilt.

SillySusan 07-17-2018 08:03 PM

Wow! Great pattern! Beautiful quilt! It looks so complicated!

coopah 07-18-2018 05:20 AM

Wonderful quilt! This looks like a quilt to make and enjoy!
