Well I finally got smart after seeing one of these and made myself a pegboard thread holder! I have 2 other types but they wouldn't hold my spools, they kept falling off.

I'm a happy camper now! Not all my threads are on it yet.

I used 1/4" dowels cut to size.

What a clever idea, thanks for sharing!

Candace 01-16-2010 04:13 PM

Great idea! I may have to copy it.

Go for it. It was very inexpensive to make. I got 10 dowels and the pegboard 2 ft X 4 ft for $13 total. I have some left over for other things, because I wanted 36 ".

Got them at Hope Depot.

Marcia 01-16-2010 07:41 PM

what a great idea!

joeyoz 01-16-2010 08:14 PM

Very clever. You can space them however you want.

MollieSue 01-16-2010 08:17 PM

Wow!!! Great idea!! I'm going to be copycatting this one! :) :)

Sheila Elaine 01-16-2010 09:40 PM

Very nifty. I don't have wall space for one......I have my Emb machine threads in a stackable plastic storage unit & it's full of threads & fabrics. Like being organized, don't you?

littlehud 01-16-2010 09:40 PM

That's a great idea. I may borrow it for my threads.

Oklahoma Suzie 01-16-2010 09:53 PM

great idea.

jewelps 01-16-2010 10:40 PM

that is a very good idea, it probably didn't cost much to put that together and are you able to move the pegs where you want them?

grammo013 01-16-2010 11:40 PM

My hubby has started one of these for me. I can't wait.

Candace 01-16-2010 11:50 PM

Hmmm. I've got to go to HD tomorrow. I think I may get a wider one so I can also hang my rulers. I have several thread racks, but none of them have enough holders. This might do the trick.

What a wonderful idea!!! Thank you for sharing :D:D:D

Yes, it only cost me $14 for the dowels and pegboard. I hammered the dowels in so later I can move them if I want to. :-D

When ya'll gets your done, please post them for us to see!

Janstar 01-17-2010 01:05 PM

Very clever!

Candace 01-17-2010 02:53 PM

I saw at HD today that there are lots of peg holder "thingies" like baskets etc.

Bevanger 01-18-2010 07:09 AM

great idea

reneebobby 01-18-2010 07:18 AM

love the idea, great job.

Stitching4Fun 01-18-2010 07:25 AM

I just got my building done and plan on putting a peg board for my tools............one for the thread would be a great idea also. I have a loft that I have my quilting machine in. Maybe there would be good also.

Justquilting 01-18-2010 07:50 AM

Great Idea!
thanks...I'm going to have to use this one. ;)

What kind of hooks are you using for your tools? I'd like to get some. Did you get them at home depot?

Candace 01-18-2010 08:45 AM

Yes, there are special hooks, baskets etc. you can buy at HD for peg boards. They're kind of hard to find-like everything at HD.LOL. So, you can ask someone which aisle they're on.

Ok, great, thanks!

Quiltntime 01-18-2010 12:14 PM

Excellent idea!

Candace 01-20-2010 11:27 AM

I picked up my 8ft. x 4 ft. pegboard today with dowels, hooks and baskets. I was wondering what lengths you cut the dowels? Do you remember?

BKinCO 01-20-2010 05:03 PM

What a great idea! Thanks for sharing!

Since I use isacord thread, I cut my dowels 3-3/4 and for the larger ones I cut them 5-3/4.

craftinggrandma 01-20-2010 06:46 PM

Love it what a wonderful idea.

Pickles 01-20-2010 07:09 PM

Great ideal I told my DH. tonight that he needs to get me
this set up also. Thanks for sharing your project with us.

Candace 01-20-2010 07:55 PM

FYI, I bought three pegboard baskets, black, in a kit from HD. I'll be returning them. They don't work well with the pegboard at all. If you don't have anything heavy in them they pop up and they seem to put quite a stress on the board. I didn't like them. There's a kit of small hooks etc. at HD that was like $3 that works great for hanging mats etc!

sewnsewer2 01-20-2010 08:17 PM

Thanks for the heads up Candace.

This is wonderful. Wish I could use something similar.

But
- I have very little wall space (I don't know where it went! :) );
- My kitties would think this was either a new display for TOYS or, they'd try to climb up it; and,
- is my house the only one that gets dusty?? :x

Alas, mine will stay in plastic boxes for now.

reneebobby 01-29-2010 05:18 AM

Very nice job and you can move the pegs per the spool.

nana2 01-29-2010 05:29 AM

Very good idea. I should do the same and keep it near machine so it would be easy to put the spools back up rather than letting the accumulate on sewing table.
