What did she use for backing and batting to keep them from being too heavy and hot?

Country Quilter 10-12-2007 03:30 PM

oops...didn't realize I posted the same pic twice! LOL

Those are very cute, and they will last forever! So nice and cheerful and bright!

Here in Wisconsin it's getting cold.... we love quilts that are heavy and hot.

No batting and a polyester backing and she tied them, with embroidery floss.... hiding the stitch on the top part and tying the knot on the backside

Beautiful quilt collection! I really like the embroidery work! :D :D :D

Country Quilter 10-12-2007 03:58 PM

She amazed me doing all this embroidery work on all these quilts over I can't guess how many years....we have a few of them...the 11 she left for me to finish and I was so intimidated but also thrilled that she thought of me...but out of 4 DIL's I am the only one that quilts (one comes to me when she needs a button sewed on!) and it will take me forever but I intend on doing it! She went into a NH a couple months ago.... on my last visit I told her I had two of them pin basted and she didn't know what that was! LOL

She makes polyester look good!!! Those are great!!!

So has anyone else made polyester quilts? Seems to me they would last forever. But I'd be afraid that the quilt police would get me if I tried!!!!

IMHO...polyester never loses its color like cotton will in sunlight ... it does last!! But like someone else said...here in Wisconsin during the winter months....it feels great to be under a poly quilt!! LOL They ARE heavy!

Put a whole new twist on Knit, Those are wonderful and the handwork adds tremendously to the the quilts. To look at, they appear to be cotton. But to know that they are knit is a WOW factor all in it's self. Just proves how creative she is, and how you can make a silk purse out of a pigs ear. BEAUTIFUL, REALLY.

I use what ever I like at the time, I use a lot of poly cotton for backing, and my first quilt was poly top and cotton back........I just did my own thing.........I think I was a little more creative BEFORE I read the direction.s :D

I think those quilts are just beautiful, I would be proud to claim any of them :P

Wow! What a trip down memory lane! I remember those polyester fabrics well. Those quilts are works of art. And I love what you did with the applique. Amazing how versatile and creative fabric can be.

Those are just beautiful! How creative! What a lot of work with all that special embroidery stitching.

I love crazy quilts and I love the color combination on the pink rail fence. They are beautiful. And to look at the picture, they look like any other quilting fabric. They are beautifull to hang on the wall too, you know, for extra insulation! :)

Those are lovely Patsy and with such beautiful embroidery work on them, I've used quite a bit of poly, especially on my earlier quilts and it certainly does last and hold it's colour well. Nice one on the flower baskets, keep em coming
