Pieced and quilted bag

6 Attachment(s)
[h=1]Good evening Quilters! When I went to my QOV meeting a couple ladies had these very large bags they had made. Naturally, me being curious, I had to figure out how to make one. lol And of course I had to have one too, to bring all my 'supplies' back and forth.[/h]One of the ladies told me the pattern came with a certain iron on interfacing with grids marked for your 2 1/2 inch sqs, so you HAD to buy the pattern. (She doesn't know us does she, ha ha )
Well, I can mark a grid on interfacing and I googled Mondo Bag to see how to put it together, on You Tube. I also had this pack of charm sqs just waiting for a project, so I cut them into 2 1/2 inch sqs and added a few from yardage, so here is my result.
I quilted my lining using my walking foot. I used everything from my stash, even piecing batting for my lining, as I didn't have fusible fleece. The charm pack was a gift from someone who went on the MSQC bus trip with me.(wasn't that nice?) The lining was fabric that was given some time ago, maybe from my aunt ,when she could no longer quilt. The very bottom ends up being about 11 inches sq so it's humongous! I could probably get my little machine in it! Anyway, I hope you like it and I didn't forget my name! Can you find it?- Well, if you like it and need one, go for it! I know you can do it too! sallie789 03-06-2019 07:21 PM

Awesome bag! I have several charm packs sitting around. Hmmm....

osewme 03-06-2019 07:38 PM

Great looking bag. I like the colors you picked for it & like your personal embroidered name

mucky 03-06-2019 07:58 PM

I have the pattern for this and have made many. Original pattern comes in 3 sized. I’m not home right now but will be glad to share it. I think it might have been called Schelp bag

cashs_mom 03-06-2019 08:01 PM

That is such a cute bag!

Mucky, please do share the pattern if you find it. I'd love to have it.

Tartan 03-06-2019 08:13 PM

Well done!

Darcyshannon 03-06-2019 10:21 PM

I have made this bag but shaped the top differently. I think it is fun how those rectangles create such a roomy bag.

RJLinkletter 03-06-2019 10:47 PM

Ooh I do like this.... Thanks for sharing.

toogie 03-06-2019 10:50 PM

Do tell or show, how the top was shaped.

Love your bag

toogie 03-06-2019 10:53 PM

I make a lot of different items, so I put my name whenever I remember, especially my bags.

I would love the pattern for this bag - especially if there is a smaller one.

MamaLinda 03-07-2019 02:39 AM

Great bag. I'd also like to make them.

WMUTeach 03-07-2019 03:20 AM

I believe this is a type of "Mondo" bag. They were the rage with my guild members and are available in many sizes. I did not make one but I see the often at my quilt meetings.

helou 03-07-2019 03:37 AM

I love it too. beautiful

soozieQ 03-07-2019 04:43 AM

I just love it. Great job!

sJens 03-07-2019 06:29 AM

Wow, love your bag. Thanks for sharing how you did it.

toogie 03-07-2019 06:32 AM

You are correct, they called it the Mondo Bag. It is humongous and would be great for a lot of things-

What a great bag!

Fab-ra-holic 03-07-2019 07:28 AM

That is a Mondo Bag. They have a middle size called Midi Bag and a very small size called a Bitty Bag. You can find them online. I have made several

toogie 03-07-2019 08:19 AM

I found out the midi bag uses 108 sqs. A grid 3x9 so 27 to each panel-

Kitsie 03-07-2019 08:19 AM

Google again to the rescue. (Amazon even has kits!) There are quite a few links for the pattern.

Jo Belmont 03-07-2019 08:38 AM

Pattern is free!

The pattern is free at https://sentimentalstitches.net/2009...torial-part-1/

It is shown with great visuals in 6 parts at their site. They also have a link at the top of the part 1 page where a summarized version of the pattern is available as a downloadable pdf. This, for me, is a definite gotta-do.

Jingle 03-07-2019 12:23 PM

Very pretty bag. Love the colors. Great work.

Jordan 03-07-2019 12:32 PM

Love the bag and it looks so roomy. Thank you for sharing the information

sue.ross.8782 03-07-2019 01:41 PM

Great little bag. Congrats on a stylish finish.

toogie 03-07-2019 02:39 PM

Although this Mondo bag is using squares, it's done differently than the schlep bag in your link. Here is the one I made mine like.http://quiltnotes.com/learning-center/make-a-mondo-bag/

nicely done!

BSKTLOFR-QUILTER 03-07-2019 06:35 PM

I made one with 2 1/2 inch jelly roll strips which came out interesting, another I strip pieced and then cut into 2 1/2 in squares; another I used charm packs. I bought the pattern and didn't use the fuseable interfacing provided. Quilters find a way around everything.

busy fingers 03-08-2019 11:53 AM

That looks nice and roomy. Well done on using what you had.

PamelaOry 03-08-2019 05:08 PM

I took a class and made mine out of a jelly roll cut into 2 1/2 in. Squares.

Mariposa 03-08-2019 09:04 PM

Terrific bag!

bunbytes 03-11-2019 04:46 PM
