Pineapple Block in 3_sizes.

1 Attachment(s)
Thought I would try making pineapple blocks using identical fabrics and placement. None of them were paper or foundation pieced. I used two sizes of Creative Grids Pineapple Block trim rulers and one Bloc Loc ruler. Big one is 12 inches, medium is six inches, and small one is 3 inches finished size. Had a lot of fun making them.

oh my goodness! they are wonderful. all three!!! I can't even think how you did the smallest one.

redquilter 05-30-2018 03:59 PM

Wonderful job. I admire those done with PP but these without are amazing. That little one is so cute!

SusieQOH 05-30-2018 04:07 PM

They are gorgeous!!! That is such a wonderful design.
I bought the ruler but haven't started one yet.

Those blocks are wonderful, great work.

All three blocks are lovely. I recently bought the Creative Grid Pineapple plastic template but have not had a chance to try it. I watched Jenny Doan demo it and I was inspired and now seeing your finished blocks I am really inspired. Oh my goodness--so many ideas and so little time!!

Great job on all 3!

Nice to see the different sizes. Are you working them together in a project?

quilterpurpledog 05-31-2018 03:14 AM

Beautifully done. I think your personal challenge is enlightening to all of us. The blocks, though alike, give a very different perspective because of the size difference. If you have plans for using them, I hope you will show us your project or projects.

I have 12_of the large blocks done to make a lap quilt. I'm planning on making a total of 4 of the medium size ones to sew together to make a throw pillow cover. The tiny ones will probably be mug rugs, but I'm also thinking about using them as corner blocks for a three inch border for the lap quilt. Open for suggestions!

I love pineapples! Yours are stunning.

Oh so pretty!! I have the Creative Grids Pineapple ruler...but I think I want a Bloc Loc ruler, too.... do they work together? or is the Bloc Loc only used to trim ? I've only seen one and it looks like something i'll use....

Wonderfully crafted. Wow.... I love the colorway... I saw a mini quilt done with pinnapple blocks...It was amazing. You should showcase the tiny one in its own quilt......

All three are wonderful. Love the colorway. Please remember to show us all the finished projects. BrendaK

Beautiful! Way above my skill level! I can't figure out how you made them without PP. Great job!!

Great job on one of my favourite blocks. I have a quilt in the works with the pineapple ruler as well but that small one is way outside my patience level.

jmoore 06-01-2018 02:31 AM

Wonderful blocks...they look so perfect. I don’t think I could get them that straight unless I tried paper piecing them.

copycat 06-01-2018 03:33 AM

Awesome....what will you make with the blocks? I see a lovely wall hanging.

Whitney60 06-01-2018 04:34 AM

I also have the CB Pineapple ruler. LOVE IT. It is fun, fast and accurate.
Great color combo.

The small one is easier than it looks. I used scraps from the other two sizes. I used one inch (although the instructions say to use 7/8" ) strips trimming off the excess. The stitching is easy. I use my piecing stitch on my sewing machine (scant 1/4" ) which allows me to use a regular foot. Since each "log" is 1/4" wide it's almost like having a seam guide on each side of the foot.
The biggest problem I had was that the Block Loc ruler was only about an inch wide and a little hard to go find a place to put your fingers to hold it in place without getting too close to the edge. Just have to cut slowly.

. Easier than they look! It's just sewing straight strips on all four sides starting with the center square. It's the rulers that make them easy. They help you cut the strips at the correct angle and you just trim off the excess. Really the easiest blocks I've ever made!

I used the Creative Grids rulers in both sizes for the large and medium b!ocks. I used the Bloc Loc ruler for the small one because Creative Grids doesn't make a ruler for the small block that I know of. I was at a quilt show a few weeks ago and saw a small block at one of the booths and asked her how she made it. She demoed the small Bloc Loc ruler. Bloc Loc has rulers for the medium and large blocks too but since I already had the two Creative Grids rulers I only bought the Bloc Loc ruler for the small one. Not sure which I like better. Both brands have features that the other brand doesn't.
