I finally finshed this little quilt top up. The hand embrodery took me longer than I expected it to. But that's ok, it is a large crib size, I think they used to call them six year?? I wanted it to be on the long side anyway.

I will put it aside for it's quilting in the stack I have started. Here is three pics of it.

Sorry about the angle

That is very pretty and you can see the work you put into it. Nice job.

Chele 04-02-2009 05:30 PM

Now how cute it that? You do such lovely work! I'm kind of partial to the name Myrtle. That's what my dad calls me! You've done the "Myrtles" proud!

RedGarnet222 04-02-2009 06:06 PM

Oh Thanks so much Chele! I try and do the best I know how to do so that I grow with each project. Your dad calls you myrtle?? That's cute! My dad used to call me muscles. (skinny kid) LoL!

Thanks beachlady. I kind of like pink and green together.

littlehud 04-02-2009 06:10 PM

That is so cute. What a lot of work went into that. Someone is going to be very lucky to get that.

sewjoyce 04-02-2009 06:12 PM

Very cute! Lots of work, I know, but they are so worth it!

amma 04-02-2009 06:12 PM

So dainty and pretty, love all of the embroidery, too!!! Wonderful job :D :D :D

RedGarnet222 04-02-2009 06:29 PM

LoL littlehud ... Thanks, it is for my granddaughter. She is at the grade where they read myrtle turtle in school.

Thanks ever so much sewjoyce. I took this apart three times and re-worked it. I got tired of trying to figure out how to set it. It made for a long day.

amma ... I was really looking ot finish it. So glad I finally did! Thanks for you sweet comments.

Good Morning gcathie!
Thanks so much for your comments. I value your opinion very much. I hope she takes good care of it. Kids these days don't know how much work this is.

blzzrdqueen 04-03-2009 09:33 AM

That is very pretty! What are the patterns you used for the embroidery?

Debbie1 04-03-2009 09:34 AM

That's really darling. Love everything about it!

RedGarnet222 04-03-2009 09:48 AM

I used a aunt martha's iron on embrodery pattern for the squares, blizzardqueen.
Thanks debbie1, I like how it turned out after all.

blzzrdqueen 04-03-2009 09:49 AM

Thanks for the info...I'm going to check that out!!

RedGarnet222 04-03-2009 09:53 AM

8) So glad to help!

Thanks Loretta I do my best.

Justquilting 04-03-2009 09:57 AM

Your work as always is beautiful!!

RedGarnet222 04-03-2009 10:27 AM

 Sheesh ... Thanks justquilting! I honestly feel humbled when I look at some of the experianced quilter's work here on the quilting board. Each quilt I do, I try and make it the very best I know how to do. I try and stretch myself with new patterns occationally and it helps me to learn to design better.

My neighbor gave me a design board, but, I haven't figured out where to hang it up yet. Like I said at the begining, I had to take this apart twice and add to it before it looked right to me.

What is a design board?

omak 04-03-2009 10:58 AM

okay, so then she goes out and makes an heirloom and I have to say something!
Good going! It may be because my children were especially messy, but I wouldn't ever let your creation do anything but show up on very, very, VERY special occasions.
I commend you on your work. It took a lot of time and it shows.
it is a source of delight to me to see pink and green working together so nicely, since neither is my first favorite colors ... you have almost changed my mind! LOL

jbsstrawberry 04-03-2009 12:10 PM

WOW!! A blast from my past!! I remember those turtles from my childhood!! You did an AWESOME job!!! I just love it!!

key4unc 04-03-2009 12:27 PM

Cute cute cute!!! Now there are only 7 days in a week and you have 8 embroidered blocks. What's on the 8th block?

jbsstrawberry 04-03-2009 06:17 PM

key4unc psssst the 8th is her signature block  Way cute isn't it

RedGarnet222 04-04-2009 08:59 AM

Oh Girls you are all too kind. Thanks so much for commenting so sweetly.

Yes the last block is my signature block. But, I had a hard time designing it around eight blocks. It made it want to be on the longer side than what I originally planned it to be.

jbstrawberry ... you remember it from your childhood? Did you have one around? I love these old embrodery patterns. I have tons of them.

blizzardqueen.... a design board is either a free standing or wall hung felt that you can put your unsewn blocks onto to see how it will look when you set everything together. It is much like having a dress form, you know it is right before you commit yourself. If I had used it before the first two times I set those blocks, I would have seen that was wrong and saved myself taking out all those seams.

Bevanger 04-04-2009 09:11 AM

oh my gosh. that is just sewwwwwwww way cute. you did an awesome job girl....i love doing hand embroidery

k3n 04-04-2009 09:17 AM

Red that is just beautiful and your embroidery is exquisite! I love pink and green - so pretty and fresh! I'm glad you included a signature block - that will be an heirloom for sure! :D

No, actually I had a story book with Myrtle the Turtle as the main character. My mom use to read it to me all the time. It's one of the books she used to teach me to read, long before I started kindergarten. I believe there were some poems, and limericks in that book too. I wonder whatever happened to that book, I still have a few of my other favorites, but hadn't thought of Myrtle for quite some years until I saw your wonderful quilt. I had Dr. Suess's Yrtle the Turtle too, I must have had a thing for turtles back then LOL.

Diane007 11-04-2012 07:05 AM

DoriDeS 11-04-2012 07:26 AM
