Every time my dogs go to the groomer, they get bandanas tied around their necks. . . hmmm. . what are bandanas but nicely cut triangles of fabric, and what self-respecting quilter would let ready-cut fabric go to waste? This is what I did with a small fraction of my "bandana stash". I made three of these already, gave one baby-sized and one Queen sized back to the groomer, and this is mine. Still have enough bandanas for at least three more K sized quilts.

I'm terrible at piecing, but I love to hand-quilt

Good heavens that's a lot of bandanas do you have more than one dog? When I take my dog to the groomed it's $70 bucks (that's more than my hair cut) needless to say it would take me a long time to collect that many.

Your quilt is beautiful what a nice gift ton give your groomed :-)

OMG I never thought about keeping them. My pups hate bandanas and I just take them off and leave them on the groomer's counter. Very cute idea!

Actually, I did make one a doggy quilt from them a long time ago. She's gone now, bless her sweet heart. These bandanas make 4 triangles for a whole pinwheel. My dog now is 55 lbs. The one before her was even bigger, but the two before were little-bitties - 6 lbs. each, so theirs were just half-pinwheels (two triangles each). But I've been taking my dogs to the same groomer since 1987, so over the years, I have collected a buuuuunch of pinwheels.

What a great idea!! I was saving the bandanas, knew I'd never put them back on the dog but hated to throw them away. Guess I have a new project to put on my to-do list. Not sure if I should thank you or not!! LOL :-)

Jingle 08-03-2011 07:58 AM
