Update on my earlier post regarding the quilt for my mum:

The quilt arrived safe and sound. Let me tell you I was on pins and needles, so utterly sick-makingly anxious about shipping it to her. I wished I could have personally handed it to her but I am too far away to do so. My mum lives with my two youngest sisters and they were kind enough to make a big event of unfurling the quilt from it's vacuum sealed protective bag crumpled state and record it for me.

At first, mum was very quiet and breathless. Obviously stunned. I could see her fighting back tears. She could hardly speak at first, her voice caught in her throat over and over as she simply gasped "Oh! Oh my!" multiple times.
When she finally managed to speak, she very softly said it was "just lovely" and "beautiful". She stroked it and admired it, commented with amazement on my father's handwriting on the label.

She all but whispered to my sisters, "She must have worked on this a very long time, mustn't she?" My sisters agreed that I had worked on it a long time. Then, in proper British fashion, my mum gently folded the quilt, straightened her apron and said she needed to see to dinner. My sisters said she needed a moment to step away and catch her breath, have a bit of a cry.

They took this adorable picture of mum, looking teary eyed but composed, standing next to the quilt. You see my father was a very tall man and my mum... is not tall. At all. It amuses me no end to see he towers over her, even in quilt form. And more than that, it delights me to know she can wrap herself head to toe in his likeness. So even now, she can cuddle with Daddy.

Thank you to everyone for your kind words. This quilt was intimidating to create because I honestly haven't been quilting for long and would classify myself as an advanced beginner at the absolute best but now I feel like I can make anything. Having said that, I look forward to learning from everyone here.

You are definitely more than an advanced beginner. I have been quilting for 42 years and I would be challenged to make a quilt like that. I have watched videos on You Tube but I haven't attempted one. Your mom must really love it and you are so sweet to make this for her.

Glad you had such an amazing response to push you along your quilting journey. You have made your mum a very happy lady.

So nice to see your mum with the quilt, I didn’t realize it was so big from the original photo, that’s amazing and glad she loved it.

What gave you the idea to do it? And how did you figure it out? Did you use graph paper or --- I don't even know what to ask. It's truly a treasure.

Amazing. I can see why your Mum was speechless. What a wonderful gift and truly a labor of love. I would say you are way past the beginner stage!

Very emotional story, thank you for sharing it with us. Question I have is did you use some sort of program to get this pixalation correctly placed as it's an awesome project? How long did it take you to design it and then put it together? Just curious.

You are not only a quilter, but an artist as well, selecting all the proper shading colors. Did you use Kona? They have so many solid shades. As stated in your previous post, this quilt is amazing and I'm so glad your sisters documented the grand reveal.
I, too, hate shipping items and anxiously watch the tracking. The last quilt I mailed from Illinois, went to Cuba before it finally made it to Connecticut in about a week??? My DH has an etsy shop and in seven years none have gotten lost, but a half dozen have been damaged and one sat in a warehouse for over 5 months. Ugh. The USPS's new policy on retrieving compensation is useless so he doesn't even bother anymore and just writes it off as a loss.

Your quilt and your continued story brings tears to my eyes. What a precious gift you made your mom and a quilt that can be handed down from one generation to another with the story. Please write down this journey for everyone that will ever hold it. Thank you for letting us all be a part of this Story.

Mum is a lucky women. Handsome husband and wonderful daughters. Family love can be felt no matter where we are. Wonderful job. Looking forward to your next project.

Your Mum is a very nice looking Lady and looks so pleased with your gift. Bless your Sisters for taking the picture and telling you how she reacted. You need to write down everything on both of your post to be kept with the quilt.
