Placemats, using kaffe fasset fabric

How do you incorporate the bright, large pattern fabrics into placemats? Couldn't find any info on this subject, so I made up my own.
To make (2) - 14" x 18" Placemats, I used 1 yard focus fabric and 1/3 yard blender fabric. Cut (4) 2 1/2" strips of both fabrics. Sew, alternating strips. Cut crosswise into 2 1/2" strips. Resew into 7 columns by 9 squares, turning every other one upside down so they are interchanging fabrics. Cut (4) 2 1/4" strips of focus fabric for the binding. Cut the remaining focus fabric in half, to use as the backing for both. Quilt according to your style. I quilted each row and column for a patchwork look. Amazingly easy! Thank you for your comments.
I forgot to add that I like to use Thermolam for the batting....It's thicker and seems to do a better job of not shrinking so much. |
