I have been eye-balling this collection of fabrics for a few months now, I finally bought it and I'm getting around to starting the log cabin I had planned for the fabric. I've never done a log cabin block before, so I just pretty much guessed at what I needed, and figured out the measurements. I made one test block, to see if I liked the fabrics together, took a pic, and did a whole lot of copy-paste in the paint program to come up with this. I'm not entirely convinced about the center being red, it kind of draws too much attention to it, so I think I'm going to substitute with the white with tiny red flowers. Let me know what you think, any pointers or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks :)
Please ignore all the funny white lines in there, this program is way too basic, I miss my photoshop7 :( |
That's gonna be purty!!
I love the Red centers and your fabric choice!
Very pretty. I think I would like the white with flowers better than the red.
Oh i love it! I've never done a log cabin quilt but those colors are so pretty. I think the red blocks spark it! Great job I wouldn't change a thing even though the good thing of this block is that it has so many different variations!
Oh it's going to be gorgeous! I like it with the red, i dont find it makes the red square pop, what i find is it makes the red in the floral pop, but whatever you choose will be beautiful :)

Red is the traditional color for the center of a log cabin it represents the heart of the home.
I LOVE it just the way it is! Vic |
Very pretty fabrics!!! If that red is too red for you, what about a more maroon red, closer to the reds in your other fabric, that doesn't stand out quite so much? Either way you choose, it is going to be beautiful :D :D :D
Either way, it will be a very pretty quilt.

So pretty. This is one of my favorite quilt patterns.
I hope to do one someday soon, too. I am anxious to make a floral one. I hadn't thought of black & white, but I LOVE it!! :D :D :D :D |

Ok, in the interest of not starting 16 threads on the same topic, I'll just bump and update this one. I'm a little more than half-way finished the top on this one, and thought everyone might like to see how it's looking.
awesome!!!! If it needs a home when done I have plenty of room!
No can do, this one my bf reaaaaaally likes, it's going to hang on the wall in our new living room when we move in July.
I love everything about it and I think the red squares are just right!
Beautiful quilt, Melanie---thanks for posting progress pics. I love to see a quilt as it is coming together.
Looks great. I was going to say that both options looked good but I would have leaned toward the way that you did it. I have not made a log cabin quilt yet, I plan on trying that one sometime soon.
Oh yes, that is great!
I love red, black and white quilts...doesn't matter the pattern, they just draw me in. Can't wait till you make it and post photos to share with us. warm quilt hugs, sue |
