A play mat for my little grandson

QB user miriam posted this recently: http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...s-t196136.html and the minute I saw it I realized that a panel I'd bought on eBay some months ago had finally found a purpose. Also, I had cut the rectangular I-spy pieces, probably more than a year ago, with no particular plan. It all came together at last. It's 43" X 32"

Love that Bob the Builder fabric - I think you hit jack pot with that one! The scrappy is a really nice compliment to it too. What motivation to keep the builder toys picked up!

just the idea I have been searching. I want to make a playmat for a little boy and his small cars .... this is so perfect!!! Thank you!!!

Thanks, you all, for the compliments! Remember that Miriam gets credit for sharing this idea. I think my GS may be a little young to figure out how to fold it up, but we'll see. He's only 2 now, but eventually he'll get the hang of it. For a child who is a little older you could add velcro or a button at the sides to help them figure it out.
The main thing to know about this is that it's basically a rectangular quilt with handles in the middle of the two long sides. If you have one around that has the right shape, you might be able to add handles and voila! If you want little roads and such, there's more involved. Rather than a panel, you could create a patchwork or applique road design. If anyone makes one, I hope you will post the pictures on this site and add a link here. Miriam, I love your signature verse! |
