Playing with Hexagons

This is what I have hand-sewed so far. It's fun except when I get sleepy and try to sew and then it doesn't look so good. LOL

When I put the fabric down and walk away to do something else, I come back and my dog (in the avatar) is laying on top of the fabric.

They are looking very pretty. Keep it up.

Looks like your on a good start. Will be beautiful when you get it finished. Your dog must be asking you if it will be for him?

Floralfab 03-27-2012 11:48 AM

Very pretty. Keep going now. I bought some templates for this block but have not tried it yet. Are they hard to do?

QM 03-27-2012 11:58 AM

Good job! Of course your furbaby is lying on the blocks. After all, you were paying attention to THEM!

If you want to make a quick GFG, you might consider using the oversized half hexagon method from F&P. I used it to make this quick lap quilt, which I will be demo-ing at my guild's retreat next month.

You are doing a wonderful job on it. I think your dog lays on it to make sure it doesn't go anywhere while you are gone.

Will look great when finished..

very nice, great colors :)

I am going to start one of these next. I just never thought of starting out so small til I saw yours. I guess I mean piecing by hand where I can pick it up & put it down when I need too. Thanks. Added to favorites to encourage me.

Great job!!!!

I have one of those started but only work on it when we have appts and by the grace of God we haven't had many this year so the top isn't growing.

Chele 03-28-2012 02:51 AM

They look great! Aren't they fun to do?

catladyquilts 03-28-2012 03:24 AM

great job so far, you know the "fur babies" have to inspect as you sew

arbed31 03-28-2012 05:44 AM

Thanks for the link, it is very pretty.

These are 3" blocks that I cut with the AccuQuilt Go! Hexagon die. They are cut perfectly and that makes the process easier. That die comes with 3 sizes on it: 2", 3" and 5". I cut some of the 2" and they are too small for me to mess with.

I find it relaxing to sit and sew by hand--something I never wanted to do a few years ago. I only have problems hand sewing when I am sleepy -- my sister laughed when she saw those stitches !

Thanks for your compliments. I wanted a scrappy look to make it but don't have scraps so I had to buy fabric.
