I LOVE playing with fabrics leftover from my projects. I kind of challenge myself to make at least one thing with the leftovers, before putting the scraps away. So, from my Star Bouquet quilt ( I posted it here http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-68187-1.htm ), I made this small table runner.
I then thought I'll continue practicing my FMQ on it. Sigh, I can't think quick enough is my biggest problem, I need to plan my needle routes better. I quilted with thread that would show on purpose, to learn. This was the first time that I did FMQ on a "real" quilt, I've been practicing on muslin sandwiches. I tried stippiling and looping. I still need MUCH practice. Do you find it easier to mark your quilt for FMQ? I may need to try that. |
What you have done is fine! I always 'limber' up by drawing some stipples on scrap paper before I start. It kind of gets the hand/eye coordination going.

I think you did a beautiful job on this :D:D:D
Maybe doodle on paper first, and leave it where you can glance at it while you FMQ  |
I think you did fine, much better than my first attempts. I have found it easier to loosen up and relax, just like you had been doodling and not to try and follow a specific route. After all, it is called frr motion. Keep up the good work. Cuppi

I have a bunch of batting scraps and 10 inch muslin squares and I always practice on this before I tackle a project. I use these pieces for potholders often just putting some nice fabric on top of 2 or 3 layers and crosshatching all together!

I think you are doing fine. I got a stencil and marked my first few quilts til I got better at it. I still need lots of practice.

Great job!

Nice job!

You did fine, just keep practicing and it will get easier. After almost a year of FMQ, yesterday I finally had that "gottit" moment. I'm not an expert and never expect to be, I just enjoy the making and finishing of a quilt.
Cheers Kate |
Thanks all for the suggestions. I will keep practicing. I do doodle on a paper, but I think I am too tense when I actually do the quilting, I need to lighten up to be able to think about where I am going, LOL.
