I am making a folded flower quilt in kiddie colors for my niece. My original plan was to make a random mix of solids and prints, but I am finding the solids to be pretty intense! (This is not my favorite color palette!) I could construct the units with only the prints on the outside, which would tone down the solids, but does that make it look too busy? I keep going back and forth, one day I think one thing and the next another! I would appreciate your opinions.

I love these colors!!
I like the 1st one.

Deb watkins 12-03-2009 12:41 PM

Mixing it up looks good. Nice choice of colors.

Dancing Needle 12-03-2009 12:44 PM

That's a neat pattern! I like the first one the best.

nativetexan 12-03-2009 12:46 PM

I kind of like the first one too but if i hadn't seen it that way, the 2nd would be just lovely. your choice.

BlueChicken 12-03-2009 12:49 PM

I like the first one too.... the second one is pretty but there's nothing for the eye to "stop" on, it just flits all over the place.

The first one is gorgeous, love the colours. :-)

rootyr 12-03-2009 01:00 PM

I like the first one also!

Ducky 12-03-2009 01:34 PM

The first one had a 3D effect to me. I really love both placements, but the first one might be more fun for a kid.

beachlady 12-03-2009 01:51 PM

I too like the first one better. Like the pattern you are using.

sewsewquilter 12-03-2009 01:54 PM

I am with everyone else. I like the mix of solids and prints. That is going to be beautiful.

Ninnie 12-03-2009 02:15 PM

Love that pattern!! I like the first one with the solids!

STAR 12-03-2009 02:21 PM

I really like the first one! I also like this pattern, you are doing great even though you don't like the colors.

The Babe 12-03-2009 02:30 PM

I like the first one best. By the way, where did you get this pattern? It looks like something I could do.

amma 12-03-2009 02:33 PM

I really like the first one too, I think it would be more colorful also for a child :D :D :D

Moonpi 12-03-2009 04:12 PM

Another vote for the first - there isn't enough change in the scale of the prints to make it work. The pattern is very nice, can't wait to see it build.

Hunnib 12-03-2009 04:28 PM

I'm sure it will look nice either way but my eye tells me to go with the first configuration.

Yvonne 12-03-2009 04:33 PM

I like your top grouping best also. The contrast between the solids and the prints make the pattern absolutely dance.
I love the colors you're using also. It's going to be an exciting quilt.

#1.

Very cute.

littlehud 12-03-2009 07:01 PM

They are cool. I really like the first one better. The solids set off the prints nicely.

renee765 12-03-2009 07:02 PM

Both are pretty, but I vote for #1 also.

earthwalker 12-03-2009 07:06 PM

Number one looks good....great fabric and design. Ultimately whatever you choose will be fine.

pjb5005 12-03-2009 07:41 PM

No. 1 is by far the prettiest. Where did you get the pattern. I am very intrigged by the folded patterns and that what this looks like. ;However when I google folded flower pattern I get something totally different. Would really like the pattern source. I want to see it when it is finished.

#1  Agree love the pattern ... More details Please

gaigai 12-03-2009 07:47 PM

I think it's unanimous so far! Number one! It has more contrast and draws the eye better.

Lucky Patsy's 12-03-2009 07:54 PM

Well, I guess the lesson is: go with your first thought! I had always intended to go with the mix of solids and prints, but second guessing myself led me down the wrong road! Good point about the scale, Moonpi! Thanks for everyone's input! I found this pattern in "Fast Folded Flowers" by Laura Farson. It is a section of the Big Book of Quilting, which I purchased at Costco a number of years ago.

adriansmom 12-03-2009 08:11 PM

I vote for the first one also!! Remember kids love bright colors!

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 12-03-2009 09:20 PM

That is going to be gorgeous. Please post more pictures as you go along.

sarahelloyd 12-04-2009 05:45 PM

I like the first one...

Nursesews 12-05-2009 04:09 AM

I like the 1st. one best, the second is great also but the first seems to pop. Good job :-D

ledraj 12-05-2009 08:24 AM

I like the mixture of flowers, some with print and some with solid.
Also, I like your pattern. It may be bright but you choose a great quilt to use these colors. It will be a knock out.

Elisabrat 12-05-2009 09:27 AM

the second without a doubt is the coolio of the sets :) ok dork the second is gorgeous if this is the back well make it the front if it is just another option.. take it!

n2scraplvr 12-05-2009 12:19 PM

You need a balance with these blocks so definitely include the solids.

bearisgray 12-05-2009 12:23 PM

I also prefer the one with the solids and prints

Iluv2quilt 12-05-2009 02:07 PM

I like the solids with the patterns mixed in. Very pretty!

Baren*eh*ked_canadian 12-05-2009 02:20 PM
