I am making a folded flower quilt in kiddie colors for my niece. My original plan was to make a random mix of solids and prints, but I am finding the solids to be pretty intense! (This is not my favorite color palette!) I could construct the units with only the prints on the outside, which would tone down the solids, but does that make it look too busy? I keep going back and forth, one day I think one thing and the next another! I would appreciate your opinions.

I love these colors!!
I like the 1st one. |
Mixing it up looks good. Nice choice of colors.
That's a neat pattern! I like the first one the best.
I kind of like the first one too but if i hadn't seen it that way, the 2nd would be just lovely. your choice.
I like the first one too.... the second one is pretty but there's nothing for the eye to "stop" on, it just flits all over the place.
The first one is gorgeous, love the colours. :-) |
I like the first one also!
The first one had a 3D effect to me. I really love both placements, but the first one might be more fun for a kid.
I too like the first one better. Like the pattern you are using.
I am with everyone else. I like the mix of solids and prints. That is going to be beautiful.
Love that pattern!! I like the first one with the solids!
I really like the first one! I also like this pattern, you are doing great even though you don't like the colors.
I like the first one best. By the way, where did you get this pattern? It looks like something I could do.
I really like the first one too, I think it would be more colorful also for a child :D :D :D
Another vote for the first - there isn't enough change in the scale of the prints to make it work. The pattern is very nice, can't wait to see it build.
I'm sure it will look nice either way but my eye tells me to go with the first configuration.
I like your top grouping best also. The contrast between the solids and the prints make the pattern absolutely dance.
I love the colors you're using also. It's going to be an exciting quilt. |
#1.

Very cute.
They are cool. I really like the first one better. The solids set off the prints nicely.
Both are pretty, but I vote for #1 also.
Number one looks good....great fabric and design. Ultimately whatever you choose will be fine.
No. 1 is by far the prettiest. Where did you get the pattern. I am very intrigged by the folded patterns and that what this looks like. ;However when I google folded flower pattern I get something totally different. Would really like the pattern source. I want to see it when it is finished.

#1  Agree love the pattern ... More details Please
I think it's unanimous so far! Number one! It has more contrast and draws the eye better.
Well, I guess the lesson is: go with your first thought! I had always intended to go with the mix of solids and prints, but second guessing myself led me down the wrong road! Good point about the scale, Moonpi! Thanks for everyone's input! I found this pattern in "Fast Folded Flowers" by Laura Farson. It is a section of the Big Book of Quilting, which I purchased at Costco a number of years ago.
I vote for the first one also!! Remember kids love bright colors!
That is going to be gorgeous. Please post more pictures as you go along.
definitely the 1st one for me too.
First one has more life to it.

I like the 1st. one best, the second is great also but the first seems to pop. Good job :-D
I like the mixture of flowers, some with print and some with solid.
Also, I like your pattern. It may be bright but you choose a great quilt to use these colors. It will be a knock out. |
the second without a doubt is the coolio of the sets :) ok dork the second is gorgeous if this is the back well make it the front if it is just another option.. take it!
You need a balance with these blocks so definitely include the solids.
I also prefer the one with the solids and prints
I like the solids with the patterns mixed in. Very pretty!
I like the first one
