Hi,

Posted this picture a while ago but recently been approached by someone wanting to purchase this quilt from me. It is about 55" X 60" and I have no idea how much to charge. The materials cost me about $100. Could anyone give me an idea how much to sell for? Picture of both front and back of quilt. Thank you.

valleyquiltermo 12-09-2011 11:38 AM

Wow thats a nice quilt Both front and back. $200.00 at the least.

Macie 12-09-2011 12:01 PM

Nothing less then $200.00 they are both beatiful but loved the first one best. Good luck

granmalovesyou 12-09-2011 12:01 PM

I agree at least $200. it is a great looking quilt.

DogHouseMom 12-09-2011 12:35 PM

Make that 4 votes for $200 ... and that was the minimum amount I had in my head before I looked at the other posts. If you can get more ... try!!

ragamuffin 12-09-2011 12:40 PM

I would go at least $300-$350. Whoever is interested may come back and want another one made. I think 2-1/2 times the amount of the fabric is good. You could always start at $400 and come down. If you were near Lancaster, Pa., it would be $600-$700. Don't be shy, ask for it.

azwendyg 12-09-2011 12:53 PM

I'm thinking somewhere in the $300 plus range would be fair. How may hours do you figure you have in on making this quilt? Your time is certainly worth more than minimum wage!

Tweety2911 12-09-2011 01:06 PM

I find it so difficult to put a price on a quilt. Your quilt is beautiful! I wish you luck in deciding what you should sell it for. The prices listed do not seem outrageous to me but very fair.

Jingle 12-09-2011 01:32 PM

Beautiful quilt. As to how much to charge, I have no idea, I have given away lots of quilts.

BLAP 12-09-2011 01:46 PM

I can't help with the cost but the qilt is gorgeous.

bailey 12-09-2011 03:30 PM

Thank you everyone. Didn't make this with the intent to sell. Never sold a quilt so had no idea at all. Not sure I will sell it but maybe will quote $250 and see what happens.

hperttula123 12-09-2011 03:42 PM

I would say $250-$300. It's a beautiful quilt :)

Krisb 12-09-2011 03:54 PM

Remember an old home Ec discussion that the cost of fabric and pattern was about 1/3 the value of the finished product, so $300 would be fair, I think. Your time is worth more than you realize, and if you tracked all of the time for planning, cutting, piecing and quilting, not to speak of part of the cost of your machines, supplies, etc, you would be shocked.

Nettie Phillips 12-09-2011 03:55 PM

I don't know how things sell there but I would say $300. That is a lot of work involved.

Tartan 12-09-2011 04:01 PM

Do you hate to part with it? charge more than $200. Do you really want to make another one and are not attached to this one? see if they will pay $200. Yes, it's worth more but will they pay it?

grammy Dwynn 12-09-2011 05:11 PM

it is worth EVERY penney!!!!

Vivian Ketron 12-09-2011 06:22 PM

Beautiful quilt. I love the back.

spartan quilter 12-09-2011 08:13 PM

My suggestion is that you should charge no less than $350. Do not undersell yourself. Look what some nice comforters are bringing in the high end department stores, and you know that the quality of sewing does not begin to compare with your sewing. If you charge $200, and people hear that, you may get more orders than you want. Charge enough to help cover your materials, time, experience and hidden costs of machine, electricity, thread, etc. It is a beautiful quilt and well worth it.

bailey 12-09-2011 08:24 PM

Thank you all so much. You sure do know how to boost a persons confidence. I have no real use for this quilt but I do love it. First one I completely finished myself. I did the FMQ myself on my domestic machine. The pinwheels are 3D and the flowers are yoyos. I even drew up the owl on the back. Haven`t quite made up my mind if I will sell it or not but at least now I can decide on a price to quote for the quilt.

grammysharon 12-10-2011 08:22 AM

I say $300.00!!!! Don't sell yourself short

luvTooQuilt 12-10-2011 09:24 AM

NO less than $300....

You did a wonderful job - Blood, sweat and time goes into a quilt... don't sell yourself short...

I think that 2 and a half times the fabric is a VERY fair price. It should be more, but too many people do not realize how much labor goes into making a quilt. I have never kept track of the hours I put in to a quilt. I think I will on the next one I start, It will be interesting to know :)

pollyjvan9 12-10-2011 10:18 AM

I would start with the higher amounts and come down a little if needed.

kwilter 12-10-2011 10:36 AM

The price of a quilt is always too little or too much, I think. You might want to check www.quiltsforsale.com to compare your quilt with others. I was a bit surprised to see what some of the quilts fetched and so many of them are awesome and also many fairly plain. If I'd done your quilt, I'd want $300.

karenpatrick 12-10-2011 10:38 AM

I've always heard a good rule of thumb is twice the cost of the fabric. Love your quilt, btw.

nativetexan 12-10-2011 10:46 AM

nice quilt! wait until you tell them the price and find out they were thinking about $35.00! I made a SBS one for a lady at work and the fabric cost about $100.00 but i only told her it would be $50.00. She refused to buy it!! duh! I finally sold it to another worker for $75.00. sigh. never again.

quilter1942 12-10-2011 11:14 AM

I would start at $300 and come down no lower than $200.1 question is the applique hand or machine? If hand raise another $50.00.It is beautiful.

I looked at this site, and there were NO quilts!

JayCee 12-10-2011 04:32 PM

Three times the cost of materials and supplies has served me well when selling any hand crafted items.

Sewhappygal 12-12-2011 04:25 AM

I've made quilts that size and have gotten $300 for them.

Lori Peercy 12-12-2011 05:26 AM

I would like to know what you finally decide to do. If you sell would be interested in knowing what you get for it. i am no where near selling anything I make but it is beautiful and want to know the ending!! lol

ruthie 12-12-2011 07:23 PM

At least $200.00
