Plum and Green Log Cabin Diamond Start Quilt

1 Attachment(s)
I saw this pattern earlier on Quilting Board, and thanks to Dunster, I bought it. My MIL and I have been making quilts together for maybe 5 years now, and this one is destined to be auctioned off at our school's benefit auction next April. It's large; 102"x112". We are going to have it hand quilted; it will be "stitch in the ditch" for the medallion, and a feather design around the corners with diamonds n the background and side borders. It really does feel good to get it completed. I may make either some pillows or a wall hanging to go with it with some of the leftover material; not sure. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it too.

It is an extrodinary and lovely quilt! There was a thread recently about auctioning quilts. I have done it several times, BUT do tell the school a minimum price! Sometimes these things will go for $50 and you have $200 in the cost of the quilt and machine maintenance. You should at least cover your basic expenses. Not because you need the money (I have no idea about that), but because it's right. AND, when the price starts higher a lot of people realize this is something special and are willing to pay more. We are more comfortable than we used to be and my DH told a school he would donate the minimum (my cost) to the school if the quilts I donated didn't sell for that. They all sold.

Thanks for sharing; I am glad we really haven't had that problem. That would indeed be discouraging. Our school auction has a whole section just for quilts, and we're rather known for that. Our part of the country is known for quilts (Lancaster Co. PA) and we generally get good prices for them. It's rare for a quilt to go for less than $400, and the quilt my MIL and I made and donated two years ago went for over $1000. I think that's the most money we've ever had a quilt bring, and we were quite happy with that. But it is a terrible shame to see quilts go for so cheap when you know it doesn't even cover the material, let alone the time. You just feel it's not valued when it does that.
