That's so cute. Thanks for the good idea, I'm going to borrow it too!

Chay 08-15-2012 05:26 AM

Oh I love it!!! It brings back such happy childhood memories. Lucky baby! I know what you mean about panels, sometimes they are hard to work with and have very little wiggle room on the edges. Very clever quilt, nice job!

bibi 08-15-2012 05:56 AM

Oh my this is so sweet

probles 08-15-2012 06:37 AM

I have looked at that fabric several times. It brings back such warm memories of my own childhood. Good job.

ItsJustMe 08-15-2012 07:36 AM

How adorable! Creative and unique -- love it!

psailer 08-15-2012 08:22 AM

that is so cute and will be so much appreciated... you did a great job... i have made quillows out of the books but never tried a quilt... i made them for all my grandkids on year on each of their birthdays.. they loved them too..

sewdarnbusy 08-15-2012 08:25 AM

Very Creative... It's darling.

QuiltingJaguar 08-15-2012 08:25 AM

Love it love it, this was my children's (they are in their 50's now) favorite book. Where can I find this fabric??

BrendaK 08-15-2012 08:30 AM

Ditto to all that has been said. This is about the cutest baby quilt I have seen. You are so clever. Thanks so much for sharing. BrendaK

milikaa1 08-15-2012 11:26 AM

That is really cute....

butterflies5518 08-15-2012 12:49 PM

How darling - I will be making a baby boy quilt in the next few weeks and still haven't found the perfect pattern. I love your blocks!

margecam52 08-15-2012 02:28 PM

I am so stealing this idea!! I have these panels & some of the matching fabric that looks like the inside cover of the Golden books. thi swas my favorite book when I was little...and with our first great grandchild on the way...this will work perfectly! if it's a boy, I'll also steal your color combo...and if a girl...I' substitute the blue for pink!

I bought the fabric for me...but I think this will give it even more special meaning...having it for a great grandbaby!
Thanks for the great idea!

I had a college intern working for me this summer and she is expecting a little boy in September. I made her a simple Warm Wishes quilt using the Pokey Little Puppy fabric panel that was meant to make a fabric book. It was one of the Little Golden Books fabric releases to celebrate the 65th anniversary of these books. I used the cover and the 12 pages from the book. There was a page with the classic "This Little Golden Book Belongs to" and I embroidered the baby's name there for the back quilt label. I included a copy of the actual book with the quilt, along with a few other books.

One thing I've found in working with panels is that they are not always straight, and cutting even blocks can be challenging. It can get worse if you prewash/dry. Although I always prewash my fabric, I did not for this panel. I carefully squared up each block and then washed the final quilt with a color catcher.

An adorable quilt that will make the new mom and baby very happy! Love the way you used the "book belongs to" page! Great job!

oldquilter 08-15-2012 04:22 PM

Love the quilt, what a great idea. I have made lots of the fabric books, never thought of making a quilt from them.

Teacup 08-15-2012 04:40 PM

Thank you all for your kind comments. Apparently I'm not the only one who loved Little Golden Books!

Quilting Jaguar, I ordered the panel from Fabric.com
http://www.fabric.com/ProductDetail....9-44bf8bb1fb9a

It is available on some other sites if you do a Google search. I think this panel, as well as Saggy Baggy Elephant, Shy Little Kitten and a few others were also released last year. There are some coordinating fabrics as well, but I didn't order any, instead using some things from my stash.

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Have you noticed how many comments are along the lines of wanting to make a quilt just like yours? Well, me too since there are 2 great grands in the near future and I know that the mommas would just love one like yours.

charismah 08-15-2012 05:11 PM

that's adorable!

redquilter 08-15-2012 05:24 PM

I love your quilt! I also made a baby quilt from a preprinted book - it was a Beatrix potter book - and I really liked the result. You're right tho........it's a bit tricky squaring up, but it is doable.

Blinkokr 08-16-2012 03:58 AM

Just adorable, great job and thank you for sharing
Have a Blessed day

Pokey Little Puppy has a soft spot in my heart since my daughter named our first dog after that book. She didn't look a thing like the dog in the book but she was the best dog ever.

Darling! Adorable! Precious! This quilt is super cute! What a creative use of a fabric book!

Pokey Little Puppy warms my heart, too. My DS had a record that read along with the book & I can still hear him "reading" along with the narrator. "Where in the world is that Pokey Little Puppy? Where in the world is he? Where in the world is that Pokey Little Puppy? I wonder where that puppy could be?"

MrsBoats 08-17-2012 12:33 PM

That's an inspired idea-I love the quilt! The book and the quilt together will make for some nice quiet times.

When I saw your cute quilt I thought I have to find that material so went on ebay and there was one panel up for sale. Long story short waiting on it to arrive. Have new gr granddaughter born a week ago in Alaska where the kids are stationed. My children were raised on Pokey Puppy, now I can pass that on to my great. Thank you for sharing so I can also share. Marge in FL
