I am looking around for ideas.this may work-the solid is a light blue chennile.I was looking for baby boy combos from the stash.do you think this works?

BeckyL 01-18-2013 09:52 AM

I'm not really fond of the chenille with the batiks. Do you have any other pale blue that you could try?

patricej 01-18-2013 10:03 AM

you have enough, the chenille would make a wubberly back. :)

fxsts93kf 01-18-2013 10:51 AM

I really like it! And I love the turtles!

QuiltnNan 01-18-2013 11:19 AM

i think patricej has a great idea

wolph33 01-18-2013 11:33 AM

I had not thought of that a back it will be.I may have to piece it a little.thanks for the idea.

Helen S 01-18-2013 02:13 PM

I like this combo because the chenille has a "stripes" look that give it a little more interest than a plain fabric.

Fuzzykittenbutt 01-18-2013 02:23 PM

i like the combo a lot and the turtles will make a nice focal fabric. :-) keep us posted!

sew_Tracy 01-18-2013 02:28 PM

I love the chenille and the turtle batik...not crazy about the shade of the solid blue with it

I may have a brighter blue somewhere---will look for it

ube quilting 01-18-2013 02:46 PM

I like the C and turtles. The blue may be a bit intense with the softer look of the other fabric. Put up anothe rmore gentle blue and lets see it again!

Like the idea!

mighty 01-18-2013 03:57 PM

I think they look pretty good!!

MimiBug123 01-18-2013 04:35 PM

Love the chenille and the turtles, but think I'd go with a blue that has a little more green in it. Maybe a lighter shade of teal.

hopetoquilt 01-18-2013 06:24 PM

LOVE the turtle batik. Where did you get it?

Cybrarian 01-18-2013 06:33 PM

I like the chenille it adds texture which is important for babies. He' s going to be staring at those turtles and the solid dark that or the brighter blue will be a nice contrast.

DebbE 01-18-2013 07:18 PM

I really like your combination - although a slightly brighter blue would be even better! Can't wait to see what you do with it.

Peggy Jeanne 01-18-2013 08:07 PM

I really like the three together. The chenille will be so soft!

mary j 01-19-2013 06:22 AM

Love it! I like the idea of the chenille because of the tactile feature, babies love to explore different textures. You might want to back the chenille with some thing to stabilize it. can't wait to see it finished!

gabeway 01-19-2013 06:56 AM

I'm with not mixing fabric types but you are on right path. A pale yellow as accent would work.

cuppi duke 01-19-2013 07:51 AM

I like it . I have used vintage chenille many times for backing on baby quilts. I love it but it is a little harder to quilt.

I have not quilted chenille yet-but have quilted on minky.minky terrified me,lol-but it turned out great.

quiltsRfun 01-19-2013 11:42 AM

I think it will be perfect for a boy quilt. I have trouble finding suitable boy fabric. These are great!

KBlue 01-19-2013 01:27 PM

I like it!

redquilter 01-19-2013 01:41 PM

I don't want to sound negative, but I'm not crazy about the chenille with the batik - unless as Patrice said - a backing would be cozy. I also don't care for that shade of dark blue. Just my humble opinion.

suzanprincess 01-20-2013 07:09 AM

I, too, like the idea of the chenille for the back. If you limit the quantity of the dark blue, because it's so intense, and add an accent--how about a light to medium, limey green, to add a watery look--it should work very well. And the pattern you use will make a big difference in the finished look.

bobquilt3 01-20-2013 08:08 AM

I think the chenille would be a wonderful textural accent to the batiks. Babies love texture and color. (IMO just a speck of red somewhere might not hurt.) He would feel as well as see the quilt. Since blue and turtles really says "little boy", I think he will love it. Post a pix so we can see what you do.

AnnT 01-20-2013 10:06 AM

I like the turtle and the solid, I'd use the chenille on the back but using on the front would give the baby a texture to play with.

DJinSC 01-20-2013 11:22 AM

I like the combination. The turtle outlines are kind of "bumpy" like the chenille. I think you did great and can't wait to see the finished baby quilt.

KathyE 01-20-2013 03:25 PM

I like it. What pattern are you using? I, too, think an accent color would be nice (like the green or yellow someone else mentioned).

love to sew 01-20-2013 03:58 PM

I think that it is a great combo of blues and fabrics and would make a great modern looking quilt. Go for it and send a picture in when done.

Friendly Quilter 01-20-2013 05:13 PM

I like the Color combo, but wonder if the chennile will work with the Batics, Batics usally have no give to them al all, where the chennile has alot. But I look forward to the finished quilt.

sewdamncute 01-20-2013 05:34 PM

I agree the solid blue seems not quite right...the turtles and chenille will be great!

mom-6 01-20-2013 06:11 PM

Love your fabrics! The chenille for the back will be fun. Would look for another couple of fabrics to incorporate as well. Maybe another lighter blue (possibly a shade or two darker than the chenille and some other accent color. This will be an adorable quilt.

great combo !!

cowgirlquilter 01-20-2013 08:21 PM

It seems really nice to me.......

toodie11 01-20-2013 09:22 PM

I really like it, I recently did a quilt with chenille, and it looked great. I did a simple 4 patch with every block chenille, was worried about quilting the chenille but no problem, I put a simple star in each chenille block. I did not have to back the chenille. Note that cutting caused a dust storm in my sewing room.
