This is my Baby Lock ESpire the Quilters Dream Series. I just love it. I had to have 2 garage sales, sell my kenmore, my serger and juke machines to afford it , but I would do it all again.
Th second machine I purchased at a garage sale for $20.00 It is a Dressmaker from Japan. |

Oh, I wish I could afford a fancy machine...
Ok, here are mine My 1949 singer was in lovely shape before the flooding in my basement two years ago. I claimed it and the many other things I had to my landlord, but he refused to submit my claims to his insurer. So now, I'm suing him and still waiting for a court date. (Neglect on his part, I told him there was a water problem two years in a row, he ignored the problem and it ruined my stuff) This poor machine is now cracked and peeling, the case is full of black mold, the metal parts are oxidized. I don't even know if it still works, I can't bare to even plug it in :( Next up, is the Kenmore model 1774 that my mother bought herself before she was even married- I think she bought it in the mid-70s. It comes with a ton of different cams and attatchments and it cost a pretty penny for an embroidery machine like this back in the day. Still works great, but it takes up a lot of room because of the sewing table it goes in, and the sewing table is now the little stand I put my bird cage on... lol I pull this machine out when there is someone else over who is sewing with me. After that, is my regular machine. I spent over 500 bucks on this machine, and that is a lot of money for me! I bought it last year, and I'm almost finished paying for it. I think my last payment is next month! It sews like a dream, has a ton of stitch functions, does GREAT FMQ, I love love love this machine. My only complaint is that the space I have to wad up my quilt in between the body and the needle is not very big... My next machine will have a bigger throat. Maybe I'll use the 1500 bucks I'm suing my old landlord for to buy a new machine... That is, when we eventually go to court over it! My 1949 Singer industrial 1949 Singer... poor baby! 1974 kenmore model 1774. My mother bought this machine before she got married! Love all the machines. I have some of the same machine. It would take me way to long to take pic and label them with the year. I have about 20 scattered all over the house. My oldest is from 1877. My newest is a babylock serger I bought last year.

This is my new pride and joy, in my cramped sewing quarters. I am 100% in LOVE with this machine. I also LOVE my husband for buying it for me. :)
As a side note, I'm really jealous of you ladies with actual "sewing rooms". I have a corner of the living room with my stuff piled up but I would love a little room to dress up and have fun with. I could take over half the kids toy room, or set up shop in the spare bedroom but then I'd miss being in the living room when everyone's there in the evenings. Catch 22 I guess. Rachel,
You look young. Give it some time. I'm sure most of us started out in small spaces. As the kids grew up so did my sewing space, (thier bedroom). |

My 1949 singer was in lovely shape before the flooding in my basement two years ago. So you do have a fancy machine after all!!!! What is the serial number on it? I am thinking that its more of an later issue. I can check it through my records here just to see, but I have been known to be wrong before!   I had a near mint 319K with all of the accessories including the cabinet and stool I bought off of CL for $40. When my Niece and her MIL went to pick it up the MIL fell in love with it. She was saying that she had one that she received new as a wedding gift but it was lost in a house fire. That was her favorite machine she ever owned but was unable to find another so I just gave it to her saying it was my belated wedding gift. Billy, you should be careful bragging about your machines, some of us may get very jealous and come over and mug you and take them.LOL I am loving this thread though, a lot of really nice vintage machines and some pretty high tech ones also. Lets just say I am envious of a few of the machines shown especially the 222K, the 301's, and the Black 319!!!! Billy |
Yeah, I'm about to lose my space, with the baby on the way!
In our old place, we had a 3 bedroom so I had my sewing room, and Sasha had his office/guest room. We're in a bigger and better place now, but it's only 2 bedroom, plus a basement. The basement was supposed to be mine, but everything we don't have room for ends up piled int he basement so there are boxes and bins all over the place and I barely have room to move around, plus the washer and dryer and deep freezer take up space... *sigh* |

When I was looking up information for the insurance and rental board, I got the serial number and found the manufacturing date, let me see if I can find all that info for you. Ok, serial 8588021 Cat. No. BAJ3-8 Manufactured in St-Johns, PQ, in 1949 Wait, that's the number on the motor, where do I find the machine serial? |
don't listen to them - do not throw that away!! as he said, it can be saved (the case might have to go)
I just recently got a 319 and I LOVE it - it does some fantastic stitches and it's all mechanical - no motherboard to fry ... mine is green, and I think it also came in mocha .... |
ps, get some Tuffstuff foaming cleaner in the auto dept at walmart to clean the outside of the machine and oil the inside (do not get any oil or grease on that big belt on the right side inside) there's a gear inside the top where the levers are - you can remove the top (3 screws) to get to that gear - use singer lubricant (available at joanns etc) on the gear only - the rest of the places all take oil

If you want to clean it use GoJo NON PUMICE hand cleaner and a plethora of cotton balls and paper towels. work in small areas at a time and take lots of time to clean it. Then you can polish the finish with a good wax of polish. But always test a small area on the rear of the machine first to see if it is compatible with the finish. Billy |
Where's the darn Machine serial number? All I can find is the motor serial!
|
look on the front edge in front of the needle - tip the machine a little to see it

Here is my Janome 1600 P-QC and my Janome 8077. You can see one of my singers hiding under a cover. I also have a Janome serger and a Singer from 1952 that runs like a top!
I took the pic of them side by side when I first got the 1600. Amazing what a couple inches of throat can do to the size. |

Just curious what is the serial number for the Singer 27 Pheasant you have. I have a Pheasant that was so far gone that I had to do a repaint and its now a candy rootbeer with 22KT gold leaf decals that I made. I am curious if it came from the same litter as mine. And how much of the color is still left on the decals? Billy |

Lostn51, The serial # is L877970. The patten dates are 12-5-1882, 9-2-1885,7-19-1887, 8-21-1888, 1-13-1891. Why so many different patten dates? The colors are very clear. Pretty close to pristine in color condition.

Your machine is a few years older than mine (by 9 years) but you have the most sought after and rarer decal pattern. It is a beautiful machine indeed!! Billy |
