My first thought is to try and use the cream if you have enough. Another option is to use the same fabric that you use on the back--unless it will be a completely different color family. I don't think you need a border.

This is beautiful. I would not put a border on it but look for a very small print or strtipe with the blue color and bind in that

Quilterscache has an alphabetical listing under the "s" for two sawtooth squares..one is Saw Toothed Square 12" with two circles,dots, whatever after the description. That is not the one I used.

The other one is Sawtooth Square 12" with only one circle, dot, whatever. The explanation of the quilt is on the second page of that square. Read until you see Page 2 near the bottom and click on it.

I changed the size of my squares to 9" because I was concerned I would not have enough material for the 12" size.

I do not always put borders on my quilts. If the design is gorgeous as it is (it is!), and anything more would detract from your fabulous points(it would!), then definitely just bind it and let it stand for what it is - stunning.

this is a problem is always have - how do you mathematically change the dimensions from 12" to 9" when all those 7/8-es are floating around in there?

i can never figure out four + seven, let alone something like this.

A 12" square is made up of 3 rows of three 4" squares....these are the finished sizes.

A 9" square is made up of 3 rows of three 3" squares..again the finished sizes.

When I cut the first squares to make my HSTs, I cut them bigger than I need to. Then after I sew them together, I cut them down to the size I need.

This I found out after ending up with HSTs too small..many of them too small...

So I don't worry about 7/8" any more. For 3 1/2" HSTs, I usually cut the original squares about 4 1/4" to 4 1/2", make my HSTs, and then cut those to 3 1/2" size, so they will be 3" when I finish. This is one reason why I made this quilt. I needed the practice of cutting down those HSTs.

Yes, I use more material this way, but if I end up with too small HSTs, I will have to cut again, so maybe I save material in the long run.

Beautiful quilt!! I would just find a tonal blue if you don't have enough of your printed blue. It would look just fine to finish it with a blue binding. Great job!!
