Practice Mug Rug
1 Attachment(s)
I am making 40 of these for a church event. They will be in various pastels with a little bold thrown in. I am not supplying mugs, just took a photo with one for size reference. The binding is not great as I rushed!
i also plan to stitch around the raw edges on my appliqué. Any suggestions? |
Looks good!

Looks great to me. They will be welcomed by everyone that gets them. Keep up the good work.

Very cute!

very nice mug rug

40 of them, good for you.
I make my mug rugs 8 by 10 inches with insul-brite so they can also be used for hot pads. Also I have the backing 1 inch larger all the way around, bring it to the front and fold the edge under instead of a separate binding and use a decorative stitch on it. That speeds up the process since I don't have to sew on the binding. Have fun with using lots of colors and prints. |

Very pretty. I love mug rugs.
|
very nice like how you matched the cup!!!
|
Yep, jbening had a good idea to pull the back over for the binding. You will be glad when 40 finally arrives!
|

40 mug rugs! Wow ... mug rug looks great! Good luck on the church event.

Came out nice.

Great start, you will perfect them by the time you are finished. Can't wait to see more and I wish I had someone to iron while I sewed :)

Cute. Good luck with the event. BrendaK

Looking good and colorful.

Very nice! I like to make mug rugs too but that is a lot! Sometimes to avoid binding I stitch around, leave opening, and turn, then stitch around edge a couple times.

Here is another practice mug rug. I found fabulous butterfly fabric at my lqs. Playing with the binding, I used my embroidery machine. I like the front, but the back, not so much. If I do more like this I will change my bobbin thread color to match the backing.
|
Nice mug rugs - I also make my backing bigger. I stitch the backing to the top and bottom right sides together and then turn right out through one side (which makes its own binding for the top and bottom) and then fold the sides in mitering the corners and then stitch all the way around. Hope that made sense. Sure makes the binding on those little mug rugs so much faster and easier.

Great start!

Very cute but yikes! 40 of them! I hate doing even 2 of anything.
