Pre-game Projects

2 Attachment(s)
Our daughter Kaitie was on pins and needles before the big game yesterday, so she made a couple of cute projects. (arr, arr) The demure Bunny Hill pincushion is for her and the wild and crazy Kaffe pincushion is for her boyfriend's mom, who loves the color orange. K & her boyfriend also made the neat hatpins. I am so proud of her because she had never sewn anything but straight lines before and did great with the circles!

Sweet cushions and pins! Those look longer than corsage pins for the hat pins. Where do you get pins that long?

BrendaK 02-03-2014 10:56 AM

Those are neat. BrendaK

Tartan, they are longer, usually you can find them in the two lengths shown on Etsy or on eBay. They are called hat pin blanks. They come in silver or gold finishes and differently designed heads, ranging from pin head to fancy filigree.

Thanks everybody! Kaitie is going to get a kick out of your comments.

Lynnie - Neat! I did not know there was a pincushion swap, but I will let her know.

Very cute pin cushions and pretty pins. Come join in the fun on the pin cushion/ needle book swap every month. Like Lynnie said it's a lot of fun. not very many of us so we would really love to have you all join in. Watch the news letter for sign ups on the 25th. Mary

Both pincushions are great and so are the hat pins.

Thanks for the information about the long pins.

BuzzinBumble 02-05-2014 09:27 AM

Thank you all!
Karen (klaws) I love your Dave Barry quote.
Dottie I didn't know that Fire Mountain Gems carried the hat pin blanks - they have great beads. Thanks for the info!
Mary & Lynnie, that pincushion swap is tempting. Maybe time will allow.

Nice pin cushions. What did she use for stuffing?

BuzzinBumble 02-05-2014 07:04 PM

Hi Carol,
She used dry sawdust to stuff the pincushions. It makes a great, firm stuffing, adds some weight so it doesn't tip over, and really holds the pins in well.

heather1949 02-05-2014 10:40 PM

Wow what a great job she did and both of them are beautiful.

Oh geez, I am alergic to sawdust but have used a small rock in the middle of my stuffing for weight. Works for me!!
