Preserving memories of Mother

2 Attachment(s)
It's been well over ten years since my mother died. My elder sister still has a lot of her domestic processions, sheets, purses, and clothes. When she visited recently, she brought with her 2 of mother's old floral sheets, and asked if I could quilt them for her. They weren't in the best of condition, but this seemed so necessary for her, I did it gladly. We had a lovely day out, (she's not very mobile anymore, 70 yrs.), buying thread and batting and touring a few quilt stores looking for design ideas.
She watched silently as I loaded mom's sheets onto my machine and for the 2 days it took me to quilt it, a simple floral design, and never left my side. There was a large header on one, enough to bind the quilt. After vacuum packing it into her suitcase she flew home to Ottawa yesterday.
While I don't fully understand the degree of her attachment to these material things, I was very glad to be able to give her something of mom's that she will use and have near her every day.

That is awesome. I want to make a whole cloth quilt for my bed.

I am sure that your sister will treasure the quilt as well as the time the two of you spent creating it. It turned out beautifully.

This quilt makes you realize that you don't have to have an elaborately pieced top to bring a little comfort and joy to a loved one. Great job!

What a special story of a special family full of love. Thanks for sharing.

It will feel like a mother's hug when she wraps up in her quilt. When my sister died, I didn't take anything valuable of hers but rather something I would use and think of her.

I would never thought about doing this but it turned out so beautiful. May your sister feel the warmth of her mother's love as she wraps this around her. May you have the warmth of doing something extra special for your sister.

Wonderful story and a wonderful thing you did for your sister. She will think of your Mother and of you for quilting it for you. She will love it forever.

What a treasure for your sister's heart you created. My mother died almost 28 years ago when I was 19 years old. How I wish I could wrap up in sheets that she slept on for just a moment in time---just to feel closer to something she touched-- sigh......

Beautiful and I have discovered that the depths of one's attachment to those memory things aren't easily explainable and to someone else may not even make sense. It is what it is. I am sure she is grateful.
