I can't draw a straight line..but can do wonders with a ruler. I'm using the Fon's & Porter white lead pencil to mark the quilting lines. Will start on it tomorrow. It has to go to Germany by the first week or so of Feb. for my step daughters birthday. Keeping all my fingers & toes crossed that it comes together like the picture in my head. =)

I really love that pencil. I've used it for little things but never an undertaking like this where I REALLY have to rely on the lines. The only thing is..I need to iron it smooth and I'm kinda nervous about the heat setting it. I'm really hoping it washes out. I may just spray baste it smooth without ironing.

I was going to put the turquoise on the brown and brown on the turquoise~but I'm afraid it will show my mistakes too badly. So I've decided to put brown on brown and blue on blue. That way the quilting will show up better. LoL! makes sense to me. =)

Looks like it's going to be one sharp looking quilt. I'm sure she will love it.

That is just beautiful. I need to mark straight lines too. What a great way to do it.

I love my F&P mechanical pencil. But I find the markings rub out very easily. I had marked the center of a quilt I am handquilting and by the time I got done with my first hoopful of quilting all my other markings had rubbed off! So now I use it to mark as I go, it was a hard lesson learned. Maybe because so much of the quilt rubs against itself when handquilting with a lap hoop you will not have the same problem with machine quilting. I suspect it will also stay better if loaded on a rack.

I don't know if ironing it will heat set your marks. You may wish to try it on a piece of scrap fabric if you have any left.
