No excuses...get busy quilting.

LindaR 06-22-2009 04:53 AM

Do you ever get to the other parts of the house???? Love the glass of wine...nice touch

sandpat 06-22-2009 05:16 AM

Andrea, I'm sooo jealous!!! That room turned out great and I love all your older machines and teddies! Your wall hangings look great...I might just leave them up even when the walls get fixed! Thanks so much for sharing your room!

Barbm 06-22-2009 05:25 AM

everything looks fantastic! You did a great job!

brendadawg 06-22-2009 05:41 AM

Congrats on a super sewing space. It's so much more fun when you have a nice place to work in. (I know, because my house right now just doesn't have enough room.)

Come on over!!! Bring your machine. I have room to set up more tables in here. By then I should have the fridge to stash the wine and sangria and other treats!

Linda eventually I'll post photos of the rest of the house. We still have a few more reno touches to do and we still need to get the spare room set up as a bedroom. Right now it is a place to stash things til we get round to unpacking it and organizing it right! But hopefully before the summer is out I'll be able to post photos of the rest of my house I just moved into!

yes I do get to see other parts of the house, but now that I have finally got my sewing room set up this weekend, I'll be playing here mostly! ooh and of course my kitchen!

Deara 06-22-2009 05:48 AM

Thank you for such a wonderful tour of your life and sewing room.
Pictures say more than words can.
Your creativity is awe inspiring.
I love your Bear collection.
Where will you put a small fridge?
Deara

Hey, I'll BRING wine - it's REALLY good and cheap here! :D

Andrea, I just love all the little touches, around the quilty stuff, best of both worlds. As for the walls, I'm getting that you feel they have to go, but I like them! You can't see my walls, lol! I love everything about this room, esp. the stash! woo hoo, you have quite a bit going on there, too!
So lovely to have your mum there too, and so great that you can talk and share quilting! That's the best. :D

Quilt4u 06-22-2009 07:12 AM

I love everything about it and the quilts are so beautiful.

AtHomeSewing 06-22-2009 07:36 AM

Oh my gosh, it is fantastic! I love it. The trinket box is fabulous. You are going to have such a great time in that wonderful room. I am happy for you!

gaigai 06-22-2009 08:08 AM

It's a great room! You did a really good job of organizing it. Wanna come do mine for me?! :D

sewjoyce 06-22-2009 08:25 AM

Wow -- what a nice room!!! I love it!! Looks like you are sew organized!!

barnbum 06-22-2009 09:23 AM

Aggi--it's awesome!! What a cozy place!! Great stash. My favorite piece is the cabin wall hanging. Looks hard--I bet it's paper pieced. :D

Wishing you many creative hours in there.

CRH 06-22-2009 09:39 AM

Congratulations on your new house and great sewing room. Isn't it nice to have a place for everything?? Here's wishing you much enjoyment!!!

Mamagus 06-22-2009 12:26 PM

That's wonderful Andrea! So happy that you've finally have your space!
Can we have one more overall shot of the room... say from the staircase looking into the room?

Boston1954 06-22-2009 12:30 PM

I see the wine glass! Have you been drinking on the job? or is that Kool Aid? :-)

Very nice room. I agree, it is a long time to wait buy boy, doesn't feel good to finally have it?

hereca622 06-22-2009 12:46 PM

WOOOOHOOOOO!!! Congrats on your wonderful sewing room. Doesn't it feel good to be organized? I bet that you go in there and just stand and smile. My guest room was the last room to finish after I moved. It only took 3 years to get the last boxes out of there. I go in there three or four times a week and just look and feel good. My next goal is to make quilts for the two beds in there and a couple of wall hangings. Then, they will have to surgically remove that grin from my face.

Happy Quilting,

Andrea, that room is so nice. You have certainly utilized every inch of space in that room. Isn't it great to be in your own home and do what you want? And to have Mum right down stairs - would love to be near my daughters!

We are moving sometime soon and I too will have a dedicated sewing studio and can't wait!

Diet coke wouldn't look too bad in the wine glass either, would it?

When my sewing room was "new," (when the girls left the nest and I moved into their room) I did that. Would go in and sit on the daybed and just enjoy the "view.' Well, as things began to accumulate (more sewing machines, more fabric, etc.), we eventually moved the daybed out and into the boy's room (when he left the nest). Now I can still sit and enjoy the view because the daybed is now in the computer room. That room is still pretty well organized. BUT -- the sewing room/craft center/scrapping/etc. room is another story...... Ce la vie.

Alexi is still new to us as we adopted her from the SPCA about 6 weeks ago. I have every intentions of making a quilt of her very own!

If you came to sew in my room I'll be sure to have Diet Coke for you! :)

AWESOME!
But, I see one problem....it's too neat!
I'm thinking I need to come and help you make it looked "lived in" lol

And look at Alexi...too cute!

Come on over!!!!

I started up a couple new projects last night, although I probably won't get to play with them til the weekend as I have housework tonight, Mum and I are going to Cirque du Soleil Wednesday night, Thursday I have my work social club surf and turf bbq, then back that evening to meet up with our Thursday sewing group just to have tea and dessert, then that takes us to Friday again!! whew!!! now that the room is set up, I now have to find the time to actually SEW!!! LOL!! I have big plans for my room and the ideas are swimming around. It's a shame I have to work in the day time! :(

Yes Alexi is a big sook! She has to be on your lap all the time or cuddling in bed between Trevor and I. She loves to sleep under the covers. She will be a good bed warmer when the winter gets here again! LOL

GailG 06-23-2009 04:48 AM

I just keep coming back to look at your great room to see if I've over-looked anything and to see which of your ideas I can use. One thing I am wondering about is where do you place your pieces to design your quilts? I don't have the space for a design wall (unless I would hang it from the ceiling in front of the closet wall). What I usually do is place a sheet over the bed and lay all of my pieces on that. Then when it's time to use the bed, I roll the pieces up in the sheet.

Bevanger 06-23-2009 05:05 AM

wow! thanks for the tour. only one problem that i see.. its too clean. i think we all need to play at your house. :D looks great hun. so comfy

I plan to buy a piece of art canvas at Michaels and then stretch a piece of flannel over it. The one place I have picked out to put it is over the two doors that houses my electrical box panel. I can then hang it over those ugly doors and then when I need to get to the panel I can just unhook it from the doors and put it back again. I am going to head to Michaels perhaps this weekend to price the canvas. Once I put it together I will post a photo of where I will put it.

Another idea you can do for your design wall is to find a long tube at your local fabric store they use for rolling fabrics and to roll your design wall in that. Then you can store it in a corner and can take it with you anywhere and all your pieces will stay in place :) hmm just reread your message, you do that now!! LOL sigh... I'm at work so my mind is in a zillion different directions... but hey I still need my dose of this forum even here at work throughout the day!!! LOL

Actually the electrical panel is on the ride hand side of the Grapevine wreath. That WH is almost in the corner of that wall, so the wall you don't see is where I'll be putting the design wall.

I'm so glad you enjoy looking at my space! I'm loving every minute of being in there now and yes I am willing to share my ideas with anyone here in the room! I'm always seeing ideas from other people's sewing rooms that I want to put into mine! I still have plans for that big storage shelf by my sewing machine, but in time. Right now it is still to messy to me! I need organization in my life LOL. I love looking at organization books! I have a book specifically for sewing rooms! I'll take a look through the book tonight to see if I can see any other ideas about design walls!

Cheers!
Andrea

If I'm not organized, I'm a MESS!!!! Don't you worry though, there will be messes in that room as I go, but I always clean up before I'm done for the day or evening!! :)

GailG 06-23-2009 11:31 AM

Thanks so much for the detailed reply. Actually I think the fabric roll would do well, because with the sheet it actually is just folded up and stashed away. The roll would prevent so much wrinkling. Great idea, thanks. I like your idea of canvas yardage. Have never really looked for that, so I don't know the width of the piece. I was just thinking about getting a good quality flannel-backed vinyl tablecloth. I have a cheapo one right not and it really doesn't work. Someone on the board recommended getting a higher end in quality because they worked better. Oooh, I've got 'freesONs" just thinking about how much I am learning from all of you great people. (FreesONs is a Cajun French term for "goosebumps" or gooseflesh. It's meaning more or less connotates that chilly feeling. It really loses something in the interpretation.

k3n 06-23-2009 11:32 AM

hey Gail - that's French French as well only they write 'frisson'!

mpspeedy 06-23-2009 02:28 PM

It looks great. From the looks of the items hanging on the walls you got plenty accomplished even without your new sewing room.

 I don't know too much of the French spelling. I usually spell it as it sounds. Thanks. Now I can say that I was taught by someone from France.
