Purple Puzzle Quilt
2 Attachment(s)
I am making this quilt for my mother. I am visiting her in November. I just cut the squares and arranged them this week. I really like the way it is turning out. I am using the tutorial from Pieces by Polly - http://www.piecesbypolly.com/2012/09...e-pattern.html. I also included a picture of some testing I did to sew on the "knobs" for the puzzle pieces. It's my first time doing any sort of appliqué and I was pleased with the results. It still has work to do but I'm excited to get this project done. My mom loves purple and jigsaw puzzles. I think I will QAYG for this project to speed up the process a bit.

Pretty purples and it’s going to be cute!
|
looks great so far
|
Have you decided how you are going to sew the "knobs" on? I have this on my bucket list along with so many others. I'm sure your mom will love it.
|
Teddybear Lady - I’m going to use a blanket stitch for the knobs. I did several tests with the satin stitching and it was too bold and dense for my taste.
Thank you Tartan and QuiltnNan! |
This will be so pretty when done. I really like all the different fabrics you selected. Really neat... Good job on the applique work...
|
Going to be super. Love the stitches you have used. Thanks for the link. BrendaK

Purple Puzzle Quilt Progress

Thank you all so much for your kind words and encouragement. The last few days have been spent tracing knobs onto Heat N Bond, cutting them out, ironing to fabric, cutting THOSE out and finally placing the knobs and ironing them on. This photo is before I ironed them on but this will be the placement. One is missing from the photo because I didn't notice that it fell before I took it.
|
I'm so glad you posted the link to the original because I had no clue where you were going! Your fabrics are gorgeous and I admire the amount of work you're doing to add the correct "knobs" to the neighboring squares. Good job!
|
you're off to a great start.

This is going to be awesome!!

Update: Slow Progress
I dont have a new photo taken yet but my quilt is progressing nicely after a minor setback. I was a little over enthusiastic when trimming my first two squares and more fabric was required to replace them. All the knobs are sewn on, the squares basted to batting and the first two rows are quilted! I haven’t been able to work on it as much as I’d like to but it will be done in time for our trip in November! I’ll post another photo as soon as I like take one.
|
Love it! Also like all of your purple fabrics and I am sure your Mom will love it too.

I didn't finish it for Mom's birthday in November. Life happened. I also didn't enjoy the process as much as I thought I would. I decided this weekend's VQW was the time to commit to it. Here is the finished product!
|
I hope your mom loves it as much as I--it is a beautiful quilt! Great job.

Thank you, thank you! I already sent my mom a picture. I couldn’t keep it a secret. She thinks it’s great so I’m happy. 🥰
