This quilt was a big pain!! LOL I kept getting the wrong little square on the block that made the bump in the puzzle piece, even though I was following a diagram. I don't know how many times I had to take out one of those little squares and change colors!

What a great quilt! Good for you hanging in there!

dispite your trials in making it - it is wonderful and inspires me to make one - My 76 y/o mother and I enjoy putting puzzles together with each other -would be a great lap quilt for her.

I love this pattern & actually have it out to make real soon. I groaned when I read that you kept making a mistake. *sigh* Maybe I should put my pattern up until I have more time and more patience? LOL Yours is great & I love the fabric choices. Great job!

My grandfather used to tell us that "patience bears the sweetest fruits." Your patience surely paid off. That is one great quilt. And it's high up on my to-do list. Do you have any tips to help us get organized in making this one -- especially with the little tab-thingies?

Quilt4u 03-23-2010 01:26 AM

It was a class I took. I don't even remember what the name of the pattern was. I should teach this class sometime!

Make a diagram with each block colored in with crayon or colored pencil. Then follow it very closely!! When a block is finished, immediately pin a note to it with row and block number (i.e. row 3, 4th block). Then lay it out on a design wall or bed before sewing blocks together and double check all the tabs. I thought I was being so careful, but still made mistakes. I thought I had fixed all the wrong "tabs" and sewed it together and a friend spotted another wrong one after it was all sewn together!! I found really cute fabric with puzzle pieces for the back. I just need to get it quilted!

The tesstelations quilts are like this too. You really have to pay close attention, huh? While making one of these is when I realized I needed a design board.
I love the puzzle quilt you made. It is fun and happy with those colors. Even if it was a pain ... LOL!
