pyramid log cabin?

1 Attachment(s)
I just finished this quilt top from a workshop I took. The instructor called it a Pyramid Log Cabin, but when I googled that just now, what came up didn't match what I made. If anyone knows the real name of it, I would appreciate that information. Just curious, really, no other reason.

I am pleased with the quilt, though I wish now I had done it in my traditional color....purple. :)

Thanks for looking.

I can’t help you with the name but it certainly suits your quilt - which is beautiful!

It looks like Thinking Outside the Box by Toadusew?

QuiltnNan 09-07-2018 07:48 AM

nicely done, love the colors

Nothing wrong with the colors you chose...you can always make another one in purple :-) I love this pattern and yours turned out really nice!

Yes! Thank you! Now when someone asks what the pattern is, I can recommend one that can actually be purchased. :)

i love it!
your color choices give it real dimension.
it looks about 2 feet taller in the center than at the borders.
maybe that's why somebody called it "pyramid."

Very pretty quilt in the colors you used. Hopefully, that is refreshing. I know that I am a user of lots of purple. I like the apparent dimension in your quilt.

Doggramma 09-07-2018 10:16 AM

It's pretty! It would've been prettier in purple, ha ha!

Great quilt! Thanks for sharing!

I love that pattern! Was it difficult to keep straight? (Meaning not mixing up or turning squares the wrong way, etc.)

Well, I did mix a few up, even though I was putting it on my design wall before I sewed the blocks together. I kept wanting to just "do it," instead of carefully following the pattern. I did finally conquer it though and only had to rip one block out and turn it around. If I had checked the design more often, I would have made fewer mistakes. I finally pinned a copy of the design on my design wall, at eye level, and that seemed to make it work better for me. It makes a 68 x 68 inch quilt, and my design wall is only 48 inches by 64. That probably didn't help....nor did the fact that I grew tired of making this quilt and just wanted to finish, so I hurried. (lack of patience, really)

Have no idea about the name but I can see why the instructor calls it pyramid. I love the 3D effect of it. Good job.

I have made a quilt of this pattern a few years back, and loved the visual effect of the pattern. Thanks for reminding me about it. Yours is beautiful.

here's mine in purple! It's not crooked in real life.

Saw this pattern in Fons and Porter magazine. It was done beautifully, all I can remember is something like Cosmos. Probably wrong. Colors were luminous. Great job and thank you for showing us. I really like your quilt.

Very pretty quilt. I have that pattern and it is called "Thinking Outside the Block". I think that is what the name is. I really like the colors you chose.
