This is my first QAYG. I decided to use up some of my scrap fabric and just go with squares. Thank you Caliocat for telling me how to attach the border! My friend's birthday (she loves & works with horses) is the end of this month and I'm going to give it to her. My question is: should I use the yellow fabric as the binding or stay with the blue checks?

The quilt is so cute...as for the binding, I would use the multicolored fabric two of the horse heads are done in. jmho....

If you want your binding to be part of the design use a contrasting colour, but if you want it to "disappear" use your blue check, it's a really cute quilt!

I like the yellow as a contrast

Great job on the quilt and quilting

Hi Ditter,
That's a good suggestion, but since I was using scrap pieces, I don't have enough for the material that was used for the horses. I even used a few of the bandanas that the groomer puts around my dogs' neck in a few of the smaller squares. I had been saving those for some time and the dogs never wear them and now that I'm learning to quilt I look at them in a different light...ha. I have plenty of the yellow and blue checked fabric.

which one do you think your friend would like? That would be my choice. I know I am too practical for my own good.

AngieS 05-26-2011 12:36 PM

Very pretty! :)

Foxflower 05-26-2011 12:59 PM

You could piece the binding from all the fabrics you used. The yellow would be nice too.

Stitchnripper 05-26-2011 01:01 PM

Your quilt is really nice!! Could you tell me how you attached the borders?

montanajan 05-26-2011 01:05 PM

I like the idea of making strips of the leftover fabric, stitching them end-to-end & using that colorful variety for the binding.

GreatStarter 05-26-2011 01:07 PM

It's adorable. Use whichever fabric you prefer.
