Yup...I know the colors are Ugly...this is a Harley quilt I have started for my brother...what did I get myself into. Pain to sew...oh well...here is my question...do i have to cut off all of the dog ears or does it matter??

Some say yes some say doesn't matter. Sometimes I cut them off and sometimes I don't. It depends on how much in the way they are to me.

I usually cut them off because it adds extra unwanted bulk to your seams.

QuiltnNan 10-29-2011 10:16 AM

i usually don't cut them off

Trimming the dog ears will make the quilting easier and smoother. I am a Harley rider as well, and I am sure this quilt will be loved.

Alot depends on my mood and time element. I probably don't trim thm 90% of the time. Although I do agree with the others, it definitely lessens the bulk of your seams.

I have a 1/4" guide on my machine, so most of the time the dog ears become a pain in the anatomy. So i cut them off.

You are sooooo...right...cutting mine off. Also doing large sashing..this is a pain to make.

Can't stand the look of 'unfinished' with the dog ears on so I've always cut them off. Makes good sense to do it besides reducing bulk. :-D :-D

I cut mine off to make pressing seams easier.
