Question on this quilt

1 Attachment(s)
This quilt was on my Grandfathers farm when I was growing up. I since inherited it and am planning on passing it to my grandson for his first big boy bed. The instruction to my daughter this blanket is to be used only on cold nights as an extra throw. My wife cautioned I need to have some one who knows quilts as they can be valuable. I welcome this forums input.
merry Christmas to all

That's lovely and looks to be in wonderful condition.
I'm not sure what the question is?

Sorry- any input to value or design or age that I could pass on is appreciated. It was kept in a cedar chest which I also own.

Sorry, I can't help with your questions, but what a wonderful quilt. The workmanship is outstanding. It is truly a treasure. I don't think I would trust a child with it. No matter how careful they are, something always happens.

Wowza...what a treasure! All handwork it looks like. Beautiful condition. Even binding is still beautiful. Binding is the first thing to go with fraying. No way would I put that on kids bed. I would display it but not use it. That’s my 2 cents if you want to retain any monetary value let alone sentimental value. There are professional organizations who can appraise the quilt if you want the monetary value. It’s priceless in my opinion. I have no idea what the pattern is but it was painstakingly assembled with the curved piecing and the rainbow of color on the outer rings. Just beautiful!

Well- thanks for your advise- my wife amazing found a place for it! Grandson will get a place holder until he is older.

Oh good......some individuals do not value quilts like us in the quilting world let alone the sentimental value associated with something that likely took over 100 hours to make. So glad you protected this and that you value it enough to ask for opinions. May it be treasured for generations to come! Some added advice is for you to add a quilt label to the back with its history to ensure the story goes with the quilt. You can PM me and I’ll be glad to help you with this or you can just google “making a quilt label” and get the instructions. Merry Christmas!
