Adorable quilt, my first big quilts were blue and yellow boat quilts, one each for my two sons. I did a Nova Scotia Bluenose pattern in the middle with a frame, then 4"blocks all around, more rows at the top and bottom to make it longer, more borders and a dark blue binding. I always start the binding at the back so the hand stitches show on the front, especially nice if it's hand quilted.

Congratulations on "sticking the course". You were not easy on yourself picking that pattern to start out, and just look, you did it. Give yourslef a pat on the back, you deserve it.

The ones with the most problems are the ones you remember the most and we learn so much from making mistakes!
So glad you keep going even with the problems...it turned out to be a wonderful quilt that will be treasured. Can hardly wait to see your next venture...it is going to be another great one I am sure.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the pattern. Since we are all sailors at my house, this one would fit in everywhere (except for the fact that we do not have any yellow or blue in the house). Who cares?
It would even be cool to have on board our sailboat. Is there a name for this pattern or did you get creative and make it up. Hope that you don't mind, but someday I will copy it and make one also. It is gorgeous! |
Cute and neat!
What a great quilt and your first at that! It's really well done and perfect for a little boy. Be proud!
Great job, especially for a first quilt.
wonderful job! hard to believe its your 1st
GREAT quilt! ;) My grandson loves his sailboat quilt. It was one of my first quilts, too.

Nice quilt.I have made a sailboat quilt for one of my twin grandsons when they were little.
All your troubles resulted in a very sweet quilt....love it!! :-D
Cute quilt and I'm sure it will be loved.
Glad you fought through the problems and got it done. It looks great to me. I have one of these in the making that needs to be finished.
Fantastic first quilt. All the glitches just make you better!
In spite of all your troubles, it's a great looking little quilt. I have always loved the sailboat block. When my baby brother was on the way, my mom sat in her rocker stitching and stitching, making this quilt. All by hand. She finished just days before he was born. That was more than 50 years ago.
Oh, and P.S., aren't you glad you discovered the pin before you gave the quilt away? |
It turned out wonderful!
Kudos to you. I would not have removed the binding. This is a work of the heart and not for a competition. Keep up the great work.
like your choice of colors nice job
Looks perfect! Great job and what little tike doesn't enjoy sail boats!
Nice job! Keep up the good work!
Look fantastic! My theory is that we all make every single mistake it's possible to make at least once! Now hopefully you won't come across those "challenges" again! (I've made several different mistakes multiple times, but I keep finding new ones to make, too!)
It turned out beautiful. I'm sorry to hear of all the problems, but the important thing is that he will absolutely love it.
Well, it was worth all the effort. Great quilt for a baby boy!
Awwww. That is soooo cute. Well done!
Looks great to me! As anewbie you took on quite a hard one, you should be
proud! Excellent colors too. |
with all the trouble you had you could of given up, but you did not, and you created a beautiful quilt that will be loved and cherised for many years to come.
God bless and what a great job you did. |
For a first quilt you did a beautiful job. I am sure like all of the quilts I make, it was a learning process. It is good that we can produce beautiful quilts as we learn.
Love it!
Looks great. I love it.
NICE WORK:)

Looks great and congratulations on completing your first quilt.
It's cute! The baby will love it and treasure it!
Well it looks great! I am thinking of this same quilt block for a baby boy on the way. It's either that or cowboys. I haven't quite decided yet.
I love your sailboats....you did a fabulous job.
You were brave to use triangle in your first quilt. It turned out great. Now on to the second.....they get easier as you go along.....
when i find a pin with a big plastic head: i hit the head with a hammer and it 'dissolves'....then i can work the pin thru the fabric.
