This is the quilt I'm working on for my soon to be born daughter Rylynn. I know it's big, but I wanted her to be able to use it for longer than just when she is a little girl. This is my first quilt so it's not perfect! I don't think the colors are coming through correctly either....:(

it's not as green as it looks...

Thank you :) I have 6 appliques that are going to be on the yellow and pink plaid squares but I have to send my mom to the store for some.... uh.... steam to seam? I think that's what it's called...

I really am learning as I go :)

shellyp 10-20-2008 12:29 PM

Yay! Yes, and I as well am on bedrest. :( I'm hoping they wont make me carry to term... at my 29 week ultrasound she weighed 4lbs 3 oz... My mother informed me that babies gain a 1/2lb to a pound a week for the last 8 weeks! EEEK!

zyxquilts 10-20-2008 12:45 PM

You did a great job mireelmar! What kind of appliques are you going to put on it? (I use Steam-a-Seam too!) She's going to enjoy it for a long time! :D

I got these really cute "fab-liques" as they call them at Joanns. They are sooooo soft and adorable. I don't have the patience just yet to try and make my own appliques :) The quilt I was given by my grandmother when I was a baby has hand made appliques on it, and I contemplated it, tried it, and after many choice curse words and a tear fest, I gave up. There are just some things that shouldn't be done while pregnant, hah.

I have a pig (my favorite animal) elephant, giraffe, butterly, sheep, and a lion :) maybe I should take pictures of them too...?

How do you like the steam-a-seam? Is it easy to use?

That's why I'm on bedrest, I'm at a really high risk for preeclampsia. BP hasn't been bad yet, but headaches, seeing spots, reeeeeeaaallly swollen, the whole bit. But no protein in the urine yet so we're cool on that. :)

I don't have a spanish connection per se, my uncle teaches portugese and spanish at Cal State Fullterton and they go to Brazil a lot. I went, and absolutely loved it, and heard someone say mire el mar thought it was beautiful. I think it means either look at the sea, or eye of the sea. Not totally sure :)

Izy 10-20-2008 01:30 PM

Yes it definitely means 'look at the sea' it's using the imperative tense (mire as opposed to mira), we are just learning that in class this week... if I remembered it right that is - and of course it might just be spelt like that in Portugese lol!!

You take care of yourself, at least Live2teach and yourself can chat to all of us here to stop the boredom abit :D

Great first quilt. You're doing a wonderful job. Those appliques from Jo-Ann's are adorable! Good luck with your new baby. And, stay in bed!

Bevanger 10-21-2008 07:16 AM

Great job kiddo..... Keep up the good work. You should be proud :D

GailG 10-25-2008 04:42 AM

Great first quilt!! Great corners. Take care of yourself and that sweet baby. If you're on bed rest, you can take the time to "quilt by reading." I'm not a sleeper, so when I'm too pooped to sew, I quilt by going through my books and magazines. That helps to work out things in my head before actually tackling them with cloth, etc. Good luck.

Nita 10-27-2008 06:00 AM

Wendi ~ You did a terrific job on quilt # 1. Don't be so hard on yourself! your baby will love it. Is it flannel? looks very soft and cuddly. You mentioned "fab-liques" that you got at Joanns? Never heard of them , but I plan to check them out. See, even NEW quilters like yourself can be a great resource to us OLD quilters like myself. Thanks for the tip and best of luck w/ the rest of your pregnancy. Nita

Dancing Needle 10-27-2008 06:12 AM

Wendi ~ your first quilt is darling. You did a great job. I've seen the fab-liques at JoAnn's and they are adorable. I know your little girl is going to love it for many years to come!

You did a great job -- way to go girl :!:

judee0624 10-27-2008 11:05 AM

Beautiful first quilt!
I use Steam a Seam a lot and it is easy! Be careful not to touch your iron to the sticky part, though, it will gunk up your iron.
Good luck with the pregnancy. Happy Baby!
