Here are the 6 quilt blocks that I have been working on. They are part of an order that I have been working my way through. If you saw the large tote bags I posted awhile back and the bear's paw coin purses - this is part of that same order. These quilt blocks are 6 1/2" unfinished and are going to go to the customer and she will use them to make her own quilt I presume.
If you didn't see the posts I mentioned just go on search above and type in my name and you will see a list of my posts. You can find the posts there.

The black hot pad is a star point block. The Hot pad is 8" x 8" finished. Hope fully I will have the last of her order done soon. I have one more HST hot pad to do and a bear's paw book mark and I will be done!!! with this order!! Yeah!!

Wow -- your work always amazes me! :D

rdem 09-16-2009 03:36 PM

they are very nice. With experience I hope to get my blocks peiced as perfectly as yours are :!: I like how the pattern on the hotpad seems to echo. What did you use for wadding in the hotpad, do you need a heatproof wadding?

Beautiful blocks.

I never thought of getting someone else to make the blocks and then put them together...........interesting concept.

I had some quilt blocks made up ahead and decided to offer them on my website. I have taken orders for them and am still trying to catch up. I have another order for a differant block and she wants 9 of them. I have 4 done and 5 more to go.

I saw a thread earlier today where someone bought some redwork blocks on ebay or etsy something like that. So I know they are offered by some quilters for sale in lots.

It just makes it easier for a quilter to make a quilt with blocks that may be more involved than she wants to do or is not experienced enough to do.

Some people use the heat proof material but I don't. I use traditional polyester batting and I use 2 layers. I like the traditional because it isn't fat and fluffy and is more dense. It is just fine with the poly filling.

My piecing is not as perfect as you might suppose. I can point out many places that are less than perfect! I have just learned ways to disguise them somewhat. I spent many frustrating minutes last night taking out and redoing seams! I just get very perfectionist when it comes to my work. Now my housekeeping is another story!!!

Basically I have a good eye for when something is out of line but I use a ruler and double check when I think something is not right. Then I problem solve to fix the problem. Sometimes there is no fix and you just have to live with it.
One block had a square in the middle that wanted to bow out so I sprayed it with sizing and made it lay down flat!!

Rhonda 09-16-2009 04:19 PM

This block is a good seller for me at Kalona ( the town where I sell my stuff to a gift shop). It is one of my favorites but after making these 6 I think it will be awhile before I work on this one again!! Time to move on to something else!!

Jim's Gem 09-16-2009 04:44 PM

They look great Rhonda!

Rhonda 09-16-2009 04:56 PM

Thanks Jim's Gem! To me they are old hat. I almost didn't post them. They don't seem as dramatic to me as some of you people's quilts.

But I have been saying I was working on orders so I thought I would show what I have been working on.

Rhonda - your work is simply amazing. It's beautiful if we think in terms of 8 or 10 inch blocks--BUT your work is miniture and soooooooooooo amazing.

amma 09-16-2009 05:25 PM

They are all beautiful!!! Well Done!!! :D :D :D

*falls off chair in excitement*

Last night I was looking through my cabinet and came across a pack of charm (?) squares I bought ages ago that I had forgotten I had. They're all 5" square, and they're all dark blues. Not sure why I bought them, I like much lighter and brighter colours. But they were in my stash and I'm thinking "what on earth am I going to do with these, they're ugly!"

But your blocks Rhonda, look awesome! The white with the darks is perfect, and I love repeating patterns like that. I now have an idea on what to do with those ugly little squares, thank you! :-)

Thank you thank you!! SharonC and Amma!!

It really is an easy block to do. But it is a very satisfying one to make. I like optical illusions and I like secondary designs which are sort of like illusions. I love the figure 8 design behind (or around depending on your view)the stars.
I call this block Rolling Stars but I know it probably has other names. They all seem to have.

Now Blue don't you know there are no ugly blues!!!!!! Just blues that haven't found a home yet!! I do love strong contrast. I am very fussy about my contrasts. It is sort of my signature I suppose because I tend to stick pretty strongly to that design concept.

I am so happy if I could help inspire your work!! That is what quilting is about -- sharing!! Now we expect pictures!!!! We will allow you time to get something done but we will be waiting!!

Ninnie 09-16-2009 06:03 PM

I just love all of them!

When you put those kinds of dark prints in scrappy situations they look a lot better and you get them used up. I have done that with some fabrics I don't much like. I also use strips to sew together and then I use them for borders like piano keys or I cut squares out of the strips turning the template on point. This is a great way to use up fabric you don't really like. I do mine all scrappy so I can work in those ones I don't like.

Those are awesome. What pattern did you use for the hotpad. I love it.

Little Hud - I don't know what the real name is for it. I call it Rolling Stars. I can send it to you if you like. It's just HSTs. Pm me if you'd like me to send you the layout. It's an easy one!

WOW! Thanks Tisha for thinking of me! I am speechless at all the skill I see in those quilts. They are wonderful and thank you for telling me about the thread. I hadn't looked at it. I so appreciate that you went back to take the pictures!!

I have been rolling ideas around in my mind for my next doll quilt. I see some great ideas in some of those quilts! I might get some inspiration there to try some thing I haven't done before. Thanks!

I am hoping to get a new camera some day soon. I have a digital but it is so slow!! Even with new batteries I have to wait and wait and wait for it to be ready to take a second pic. I want one that will click click click. I lose so many great shots because when I have to wait the kids move or the moment is lost.

Rhonda 09-17-2009 05:34 AM

Thank you for the compliments everyone. To me they are everyday stuff. I have made so many of this one that it is boring to me. But I wanted to share what I have been spending time on.

reneebobby 09-17-2009 06:07 AM

Looking good as always.

Rhonda 09-17-2009 06:11 AM

Thanks Renee!

Rhonda

Your more than welcome I'll keep the camera clicking for when the next show is on & make sure I take more Mini's for you.

Tisha

PS: I think there maybe some more Mini's from the photo's I took last year at the shows you'll have to take a peek at my listing of messages I have created. Let me know if you need any help locating them.

Rhonda 09-17-2009 06:38 AM

Thanks Tisha I'll have to go look around in your posts!
