I have been going over and over this and I just can't see it objectively anymore. My original design has large 12" blocks of the floral and it's starting to look too plain to me. I added the basket blocks and put the large floral in the center area around the applique block.

I just don't know anymore and in another day I need to decide what fabric is going on the large triangles of the Jacob's Ladder blocks.

This shows the real scale of the large floral

I like the baskets. I think the large floral in the 2nd picture takes away from the center block, which is really the showcase.

shaverg 02-28-2010 11:05 AM

I don't see plain. It is beautiful. I like the baskets too.

Thank you. I am liking the baskets more and more. It's like a copy of the center basket and rose at the top in a totally different style.

I wonder how it would look if I fussy cut a piece of the large floral that just has the small flowers and tendrils of vines and used it as the white area inside the basket, like flowers coming out of the blue triangle.

I think it would be really pretty to fussy cut flowers for the basket, but definitely keep the baskets.

they are both gorgeous! I could not pick but it is less work to have the floral.....I'm lazy.

marsye 02-28-2010 11:53 AM

I like it! Get you a cup of coffee and take a walk outside for a while. Oooh...speaking of coffee...brb

nursie76 02-28-2010 11:55 AM

Like the one with the baskets, definitely.

RatherB Quilting 02-28-2010 11:58 AM

I LOVE the first one. Even without fussy cut fabrics. I think the baskets add, but like someone else said, you don't want to take away from the center design.

pittsburgpam 02-28-2010 12:01 PM

I'm not concerned about more work, it takes whatever it takes. It's only 4 blocks so I can say that. :-P

JanetM 02-28-2010 12:06 PM

My vote is for the baskets. They seem to point to the center design, so they drew my eye to the center. I think the floral is very pretty but competes with the center design. I know the baskets will involve more work...aren't you glad you asked us???
Ultimately, you should go with your first instinct. Whichever way you go you will have a very pretty block.

Definatly WITH!!

Leota 02-28-2010 12:15 PM

baskets. :D

pittsburgpam 02-28-2010 12:15 PM

OK, it's WITH baskets. I'm sure I have enough fabric since EQ over estimates. I'm almost ready to sew together the 36 outer blocks and the Jacob's Ladders will be cut (hopefully today) with the floral for the inner triangle.

SulaBug 02-28-2010 12:46 PM

Oh, I agree with you 100%, for the baskets!! I do like the second picture, just beacuse I love your fabric choice, but would chose the baskets too!!
:D :D :D :D

I think it's beautiful. You do such a good job of creating wonderful patterns.

NauDeeGal 02-28-2010 02:00 PM

Go with the baskets. It frames your beautiful center focal point.

alaskasunshine 02-28-2010 02:03 PM

i agree with keeping the baskets, but since the quilt is directional i would make all the baskets face the same way...up!

i am guessing you designed the pattern and it sure is gorgeous :!:

shopbelt 02-28-2010 02:32 PM

I like the baskets too.

LucyInTheSky 02-28-2010 02:34 PM

I like the one with the baskets. And with that many blocks, it can't be too plain! :)

Jim's Gem 02-28-2010 06:59 PM

I think I would vote for baskets as well. Though I do like the look of the other one.

Blue Bell 02-28-2010 07:24 PM

I like the baskets, too.

mom-6 02-28-2010 07:27 PM

The baskets seem to tie it all together.

This is going to be amazing! My vote is "with basket"

ConnieF 03-02-2010 12:23 AM

I vote Baskets. I agree the floral takes away from the center...

ctack2 03-08-2010 05:04 AM

What would it look like if you put the floral fabric behind the baskets?

pittsburgpam 03-08-2010 08:18 AM

I plan on using the floral inside the white area of the baskets, just the part of the fabric that has small tendrils of vines and little flowers so that it looks like they are coming out of the basket.

The outside of it meets up with the small roses fabric so that will be on the outer white area.

Harmony 03-08-2010 09:09 AM

I like it with the baskets! This will be gorgeous, as are all your quilts!
